Dave - Lisa from Mobile Tech Review says you can write on the screen - from her written review: "The IPS 1920 x 1200 touch screen supports Lenovo's AnyPen technology--the included pen works there, albeit without pressure sensitivity and palm rejection. It works with most any implement that has a modicum of metal in its tip--ballpoint pens, lead pencils... Lenovo has incorporated AnyPen in previous Android tablet models and they invited us to try writing with screwdrivers and scissors (we did, the display was undamaged). With the Yoga Book there's no such invitation, so we haven't tried to write with anything other than the included pen. That pen has a removable nib--one is a traditional fine Wacom tip and the other is a ballpoint pen. We used both on the display and the ballpoint left faint ink traces that wiped off. I personally would rather not use an ink pen on my capacitive touch screen, but that feature does work." If you go to 3:35 of her video, you can see it working. What gives?

I truly think that this is the best for high school/college, I personally like to handwrite my notes but I hate having a ton of paper everywhere at my flat. To me, this is the perfect alternative, I get to write my notes the way I used to and save them on my dropbox

That paper feature is a God send for me. I am a highschool student and it is amazing for note taking Edit: I use a Bluetooth mechanical TKL keyboard for large typing projects

Won't you recommend the Windows version as Windows 10 Creator Update is coming? They made it a bit more touch friendly and the writing part will really help.

Hi Dave2D! First of all, I really enjoy your reviews and video style. I'm a doctoral student and I've been eyeing the Yoga Book for a while. I've been looking for a hardware that I can travel with to conferences, I find that my main laptop is too heavy for regular travel. (trying to find ways to pack lighter). Overall the yoga book seems to fit my need and bill. I was wondering, with a year pass since you did the review, do you still recommend getting the android version instead of the windows version? Some other reviews recommend the windows over the android. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

I have definitely enjoyed working with this device. It has helped with school and I am still learning how to use it due to various classes. I do like the halo keyboard, it is a learning curve, yet the compact size of the yoga book is helpful for me.

Seems perfect for back to school especially for grade 9-12 as the note taking is so important and having a backup digitally to the cloud is going to be so nice, im picking it up and will make a review after the first semester and make sure to shout u out one my first legit video.

Actually u can use the Pen on the screen... If u go to the settings u can choose the option "anypen" and then it let's u use the pen on the screen....... But there's a con..... So I've had the yogabook for a few months and after some time there were cracks in the keyboard-surface thing......now the keyboard and the drawing function don't work.... I've asked how much it would cost to repair it, and they've said that it's not going to cost less than 300€ (that's because I live in Germany) Hope I could help ☺️☺️ And please if I made some mistakes don't judge me.... The fact that you aren't writing directly on where the picture shows seems awkward. You have to guess where the pen is going to write.

I can actually see that writing on paper and surface thing useful for taking notes in class. I go through a couple spiral notebooks by the end of the semester and it would be nice to have them all cataloged on my computer for convenient reference later on. Although, honestly if it was to much of a hassle to take notes on, I probably wouldn't use it..

For the window version, designer probably Fusion 360, Adobe illustrator and Photoshop runs fine on it It's quite amazing to have such a light thin device to bring around you so that you can encapsulate idea easily (with the wacom style drawing pad) and once you are used to it you can start using it on let's say train and bus and still work a decent amount

Hmmmm... *HEY COMMENT SECTION!!!*. Do I choose this Yoga Book (Android) or the iPad Pro 9.7?? - Main uses: drawing & media consumption (KZfaq, and playing downloaded movies, songs, TV shows, etc)

WHY do you strongly recommend the Android version over the Windows one? Don't I have far more possibilites with Windows (having more freedom and being more versile). What's the problem ._.?

Got mine two days ago before the store even had the display up. Found it a little odd that you'd choose the Android version over Windows considering the Android version doesn't do true multi-tasking yet. The keyboard is taking some getting used to for this touch typist, but I'm getting the hang of it in short order. Great review, keep them coming.

So this is coming from a college student who likes to take notes by hand since you learn more efficiently that way. I got this device as a christmas gift recently, and it's perfect for my use case. Sure the keyboard leaves much to be desired, the trackpad is essentially useless, but having the device flat on a desk with the keyboard in drawing pad mode and the screen on the left, this becomes the ultimate notetaker. I mainly use this device for notetaking, media consumption and general web browsing along with some emulation, and the yogabook works great for that. Meanwhile I have my desktop at home for big paper writing. Although if worse comes to worse, I can pull off writing a paper on this at almost my normal typing speed.

The device has so much potential, I love it. I really hope they make a full sized, more powerful version of this. I really enjoy the fact that you can have physical paper to hand in for class, but have a digital copy of everything that I do. I like the small form factor of this particular one. It's not a laptop, it's deffo meant to be a digital notebook, and I think it works really well as that. I love it. But I also love wacom tablets, and the create-pad is just like that.

Agreed with your conclusions. Would make great media consumption unit. I planned on getting one as my ebook reader, manga, comic reader, web browsing, watch movies etc. Shud be awesome experience. Especially so that I don't need to attach myself to my desktop to do it all. It would be wonderful to laze around with this unit.

I have a Lenovo Think Station, and it's been a great computer, The Yoga looks like a fun toy to have if you don't mind the keyboard. I think I'd like real little buttons, not just outlines.

Hooray for the next gen of Netbooks!

I use it for drawing a lot! The drawing pad and the features it has is really good for drawing hehe. I use the paper and pen thingy to sketch out my drawing then I use the stylus to do my like art and coloring. The create pad is actually really good as a drawing tablet.

I thought for a while that tablet sensitivity was bad, But naah your handwriting skills are just extraordinary lol :D
