Covering the boat increases fuel economy trailering and keeps the boat cleaner when trailering. I've been trailering for 25 years with bow and cockpit tonneaus without issue and without damage to the Sunbrella covers. I highly recommend trailering with covers on for longer distances. Now I don't recommend trailering with the Bimini up but that isn't the same issue. Further, many boat manufacturers make trailering covers which are surely safe, keep the boat clean and save fuel.

We've been driving with the same snap on cover for 30 years with no issues. It fits really snug so maybe that's why we have never had any issues. We never drive with our mooring cover though.

Strap down cover tore the first time I drove to upstate NY. Now it doesn't matter how hard it rains when I'm driving, it's easier to deal with a wet boat than a ripped cover.

I don't have a boat the size of those shown in your videos, 17' side console fishing boat. If I'm fishing locally, the cover is off when I'm trailering; on long trips, the cover is on because I have a lot of gear in the boat. I do make sure the cover is VERY snugly tied down to reduce the amount of flapping. So far, it's worked really well on all the boats I've owned - but you raise some very good points.

I take the Bimini down every time but a good rule of thumb is if you gonna drive faster than your boat can go then your good if height isn’t an issue

My 2022 lund cover might be different than other makes. Fits tight and clips into track system. Also foam protection across windows to protect from flying rocks

Have to say I’m disappointed in the level, or lack thereof, of engineering in boating. I have a Hurricane SS185 and the seats just sit over the holes in the boat. I never dreamt I’d have to worry about a cushion flying out, but it did. I could’ve easily killed someone. I now travel with the cover on all the time.

So a mooring cover is not for trailering but also a travel trailering cover is not for trailering. Wonder why they are called that then and made to securely tie down? Apparently you’ve never encountered an 18 fishing boat that is fished in numerous places. And taking all the items out so they won’t blow away is just too time consuming. Way too many boats do not have all of their seat cushions securely attached. A travel cover is okay for traveling!

Motorcycle riders have been killed by boat cushions flying off the trailer.

It is a horrible Idea for me to travel without the cover on my boat as wind resistance tanks my MPG compared to the specifically designed aerodynamic cover
