I don't know if it's intentional or not but "LEO" means "to say/to speak" in Greek (phonetically). The logo however looks like a "c" is added to "leo". And guess what: "CLEO", phonetically in Greek, means "to cry" :')

FUN FACT ! Eve said in one of his livestream that this song is actually heavily influenced by the manga Jigokuraku ( Eng : Hell’s Paradise ). If you read the manga you can relate the lyrics of this song to the main character of the manga. Also, Jigokuraku will be animated soon by the famous studio Mappa! Let’s hope that they’ll have Eve in charge of the op/ed !

I’ve been listening to this song for a while because I’ve found it beautiful and provoking, but never fully understood it. After reading other peoples theories and analyzing the lyrics, I think I get it. Sorry for the extremely long comment, but I think all of the lyrics are really profound and should be mentioned. I think this song is about someone (Leo) committing suicide, and their lover finding them and begging them to respond before it’s too late. Someone in the comments mentioned the lower voice is the one who is committing suicide, and the higher chorus is their lover, talking to them. It would make sense, since the chorus has a decidedly different emotional tone than the other lyrics. It’s more optimistic, whereas the rest is more resigned. The video shows a lot of trippy water effects, which can be understood as the delirium of someone dying, experiencing everything around them as if underwater. “There’s an unknown face reflected in the water surface Where did you come from? What were you doing? Each time I blink, the world completely changes I wish to dance in the gaps between the end” These lyrics are pretty accurate to what I just described, except the face is not a reflection but their lover finding them. The end, in this case, being death. Leo is still stuck between living and dying, probably passing out or becoming confused whenever he blinks, making it seem like the world keeps changing around him. “Today, again, I tamed the loneliness And held expectations towards this idle life Holding on to kindness, I made an oath Please, praise that praying figure” As someone who has lived with chronic depression and suicidal thoughts for years, these are pretty much spot on for suicidal ideation. Basically it’s saying that even though Leo’s “idle” and lonely life feels meaningless, he’s promised to keep living. But no one really recognizes the struggle of keeping yourself alive when you want to die, so he’s also asking for someone to notice. “Even if your wishes are betrayed Don’t worry - the distorted love and hate that were sprinkled onto me - I’ve vomited them out softly, comically” This, I believe, is where he finally decides to commit suicide. Leo betrays his promise to live, but leaves an assurance that it isn’t anyone's fault. It could be that he’s forgiven everything, or just given up caring. “Please, fill me with love You’re not dead yet So please howl out your thoughts , LEO Let’s be born - Please, respond to me - Throw away these chains now While I’m still in this hollow state” This would be the lover, who has found Leo dying. He isn’t dead yet, so please respond. I think it’s half begging for Leo to wake up, and half bargaining. Let’s be reborn could be understood as they can fix things or they can try again. I think the chains refer to his depression, or possibly what he did that is causing him to die. “Borrowing the figure of the incarnation facing me , I looked at these tender hands with these golden eyes The voice snuggles into me, the time of lurking passes If you can even cover these eyes that watch intently, then -“ This is Leo appreciating his lover, and reconsidering suicide. When you are suicidal, there’s a lot of second-guessing and trying to find the beauty in little things. I think he may be trying to find reasons to survive in his lover. “The power to drag out the guilt , The view of the water ripples , And the love that seeks a reward - I scratched away all of these traces” I think this is Leo becoming suicidal again, and deciding to throw everything away. “Nobody will notice My faltering back-and-forth steps Even if there is a place for me to return to -“ This is another reference to how the pain of living while suicidal goes unnoticed. Leo keeps changing his mind, whether he wants to die or stay alive. It could also be that it’s too late, because he is already dying. Maybe he’s even regretting committing suicide, but he’s already too far gone. Even if his lover is there, he can’t communicate these feelings of regret. Then the sirens come in, which further supports my theory that the lover found Leo dying, and called an ambulance. After this only the chorus repeats (the lover begging) and becomes distorted, possibly signifying that Leo is becoming less and less lucid. On the second repeat, the lyrics change and no longer say “you’re not dead yet” which may mean that Leo has finally passed. Now it becomes the lover lamenting. “Do you still remember ? Me making you say goodbye ,I just happened to be there Not knowing anything” This is the lover feeling guilt for any time they upset or weren’t there for Leo. Often people who have loved ones commit suicide tend to blame themselves and ponder what they could have done. Most of the time, people don’t even realize that their loved ones were suicidal until it’s too late. At the end, the eye closes. I think this is another symbol for Leo’s life being lost. Finally, Eve’s note at the end, which devotes this song to “those unnoticed” I think this is his way of saying that for us who are or have been suicidal, there are people who love us that would miss us if we are gone. And this song is also for those who “just happened to be there Not knowing anything” whose loved ones were lost to suicide and they couldn’t do anything, that they aren't alone. Of course, all of this is open to interpretation, but this song /really/ struck a chord with me. Those faltering steps back and forth are something I struggled with for a long time, but I'm in a much better place now

Eveって 奇妙系 脱力系 可愛い系 の3つに雰囲気分けられてるよね

the Morse code says “Urei Nayami” which, can be translated to “Sorrow and agony” which could be telling us the lovers, or whoever’s the high voice, feelings as the ambulance comes, they’re feeling sorry for Leo and starting to blame themselves, and agony, saying how they’re agonising over the fact that Leo’s dead and they couldn’t do anything to stop him from committing suicide in the first place. Or another theory I have is that, the Morse code is Leo’s final words in the form of him possibly tapping the ground with his finger, because “Urei Nayami” can also be translated to “Sorrow and Trouble” which could be, as I said before, Leo’s final words, him apologising to his lover, or whoever the high voice is, for being so much trouble to them, trying to let them know it wasn’t their fault he committed suicide.

「気付かれずに忘れ去られていく人、気付いて欲しい貴方にも。 たまたまそちら側にいて、何も知らない貴方にも。」 この文章、とても面白いですね。 観客に対して「たまたまそちら側にいる」なんて表現はなかなか使わないでしょう。 なぜなら私たち観客側からすればEveさんのように作品を世に発表している人の方が「たまたまそちら側にいる」人だからです。 しかし、このメッセージに拠れば私たちが観客側にいるのは「たまたま」なのです。 これがたぶん創作者ならではの見方なのでしょうね。私たち観客が「何も知らないだけ」で、この世には「気付かれずに忘れ去られていく人」も「気づいて欲しい人」もたくさんいるのです。 創作をして、たくさんの同業者の方々と接する機会が多いEveさんだからこそ書けるメッセージなのでしょう。 私が知る限り、Eveさんの曲の中でこんな形でメッセージが書いてある曲はこの曲の他にありません。 やっぱり思い入れが強い曲なんでしょうね。

A song that tells the true face of loneliness: The main character at the beginning sings about a "new face reflected in the water", which he just met. But the next verse is about "taming loneliness", getting life in order, etc. The pronoun "me" makes this activity more individual and solitary so it felt that there is no more person with him. But then the character speaks to someone (to whom he tried to externalize himself which was probably a little embarrassed). So it's not that he's alone physical, "the face from the water" is still here. The true loneliness: even if there is someone with u, u still feel alone. The first refren is about plea to person to say something (LEO - speaking, word, communication), fighting, dying, rebirth, plea to get rid of everything and staying with mc despite of it's emptiness, just to be with him (toxic on both sides). But even if it looks so pathetic it isn't, he seems bored, tired. The next line is about what their life together (or separately (or both)) is like: abandon "face from water" and love, wanting payment, feeling bad around the person, but not feeling like a stranger ("if u can cover eyes that look at me"). I guess is the first part about suicide ("standing ahead incarnation") while looking at this person ("i looked on ur hands"). The ending refren is more emotional (because even of the loneliness, mc stays calm, (probably the situation wasn't he's first time)). The mc shouts if the person remembers how he told her to say goodbye and walk out of his life, he shouts to answer him finally, to speak to him. And the and he is just done all this bad luck, he knows it was random their meet each other, he couldn't have known he will be alone again. And it's how loneliness works, how toxic, how sad and how desperate and tired it makes u. And u can't leave it, because u no longer know how to form "non-sick" relationship. The terrible story about an endless vicious circle. It's why I love eve so much Btw sorry for my English, I'm European ://

Leo is so underrated compared to E ve's other songs, and I really can't understand how come it isn't one of his most popular ones. It became my favorite upon first listening. It just gives me this very particular feeling that I can't even really describe and that few other songs are able to convey. That part where everything gets distorted never fails to give me chills.

I’ve been recovering from my depression and at times I want to fall back into that darkness I was once in, but this song made me burst into tears almost like you were telling me I shouldn’t let my negative thoughts take over and that I had hope to become whole again, that I wasn’t a lost cause. I always find myself listening to it, whenever I am depressed, and even though it does not put a smile on my face, it is as if I could exchange my pain with the song itself. It is a masterpiece. Such vivid emotions of grief and pain. This might be one of the reasons why I can't afford to leave this world.

Guys I know some of you are trying to analyse this LEO so I recommend you guys (who know more than 3 languages) to switch the translation to a language other than English or Japanese. For example, I know English, Chinese, and some Japanese. So I read the English-translated lyrics first and then Chinese. The meanings that were expressed there were slightly different and the impact was huge. (PS Japanese and Chinese are very similar in some aspects so sometimes reading the Chinese translation will be closer to the actual meaning converted rather than English) For example here, "Please fill me with love" “请满足我的爱吧" In English, that's what it says, but in Chinese, it's actually saying "Please satisfy my love" Which could be understood as "Begging for someone to respond to his love". And also "Your not dead yet" ”趁死亡还遥不可及“ It says "While death is still far from reach" which also could be understood as saying "Hurry (to do something) before death becomes something we can touch" Touch as in like, finally being able to do it, throwing away all the doubts and fear of death. And at the last chorus after the glitching voice part, normally the lyrics were "Let's be reborn" “降生于世吧” "Me making you say goodbye" ”让离别降临吧" The normal chorus said " To befall onto this world, or yes, to be born/reborn into this world But the last chorus sang "Let our parting come" Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

歌詞が心にしみる。良い曲。好き

I’m forever gratfeul for being able to listen to this song. As a project sekai player, I’ve never really understood what characters meant when they talked about songs making their hearts beat faster. But then I remembered the impact Eve had on me with Leo. When I heard this song two years ago, I could literally feel Eve’s hand reaching out to my heart and touching it, touching my soul. I wasn’t lonely when I first heard it so the lyrics didn’t mean much to me, but the sheer power in Eve’s voice made me forget about everything around myself. I became lonely last autumn. The feeling of being unnoticed became painful. This song became much more painful, too. Waking up became painful this winter, too, but Eve’s music encouraged me to wake up again and again and again till the day the weight of that pain became lighter. I’m still lonely today, but I’ve gained a friend whom I appreciate, who will shout out “Howl out your thoughts” if I ever need it. This song reminds me of the pain of being unnoticed I’ve experienced and will come to experience. Again and again and again. Thank you, Eve, for everything you’ve ever done for me with your music. I feel as if this feeling of being unnoticed will never go away, but I’m not dead yet. I’ll keep trying, and if I fail, Eve is going to be there for me.
