At the beginning of the song, his plans were to hang out on the coast. Each verse was a play on the "There goes my "Life" title. At the end, his daughter heads out to the west coast living out the plans her father had back in high school.

That was their life. They got pregnant, had the baby, she grew up and went to college on the west coast. The baby was “his life” in the second verse. The baby grew up and she left for college (“his life”) in the 3rd verse.

the baby goes upstairs then next (on the stairs) it shows her as a teenager, leaving home, moving out to the west coast, I’m assuming to go to college. The older couple at the end was the young couple .. they stayed together and raised their baby girl.

She IS the baby. I think that is what you might have missed. When he says there goes my life at this point in the song, he is lamenting as opposed to regretting. His baby girl (his life) is grown up and moving away. Peace, Love!!

Been there done that. Now we have been married 59 years and 5 children later 2 boys and 3 girls. About 20 minutes ago my daughter messaged me right now my Granddaughter is making me a great-grandmother again. After 5 great-granddaughters we are getting a great grandson. In the end of the song his Daughter is all grown up and leaving home to start a life of her own and moving to the West Coast.

She didn’t leave the baby with her parents, she IS the baby growing up and leaving home. The parents at the end are the couple at the beginning of the video. They are the babies parents and they’re crying because she’s leaving home.

Yes. The end shows the baby grown up leaving the house with her belongings. Off to college. The couple who got pregnant are now grown adults watching their precious child move on into the world. This was a successful couple who faced their mistake and turned their situation of unwed pregnant teens into a solid happy family.
