Folks hated Ashley? Just the whiny bastards you mean. I've never minded her in both versions. Dialogue-wise and personlity is superior in the remake, but design-wise I prefer the original. Mix em both together and you'll get an Ashley that actually looks like a college student that also isn't just "LEON, HELP!"

I like her better in the remake but she is still only good for unlocking doors/bridges. She helped out once slightly with the armour fight (though I killed them fine before the help, she just made the last one slightly faster to die) the scene where she went to get the key for leon was fun to play, and an interesting take. Though it was definitely heavy scripted, since what are the odds the way to get him out is in the room she ran into? (I'm aware all is scripted before anyone says otherwise, just found that one a bit too much of trying to make her useful) I'd have preferred though if they actually made her helpful/useful more in the sense to at least try grabbing something in the area to use a makeshift weapon to stun the first one who tries grabbing, so that you get a moment to intervene as leon. Or have her at least put up a fight when being carried, or even run away fast instead when an enemy is walking slow-mo to her. Or actually hide on her own without having to be told every time. She could also maybe try breaking barrels or boxes to grab items for you, if not at least make her able to grab items off shelves or look in lockers to give them to you. She is one of the most lazy companions in any game to me. Dogmeat was more useful, and he didn't do much damage in battle. (I'm aware she is a college student and that she is to be protected, but if her claim about trying to be an agent like leon is based off of opening doors, then she is going to fail before she even begins, I even remember her saying "I'm getting good at this" about turning a circular wheel that lifted and held the mini bridge🤦.) I just wish they made her generally more helpful to leon. Ada was hardly in the game, but she helped leon on multiple occasions in general, so did Luis in the story and game with his ammo refill especially and shooting anyone who grabbed you.

getting warnings when u have an enemy behind about to attack and times when she gives hints about the puzzles was good and her section was amazing. the thing with ada is a mix of her new va delivery and leon not forgetting what went down in raccon and operation javier so he ain´t taking her shit anymore

Much like the Dead Space remake, the characters feel real and likeable. Ashley is honestly quite endearing and still not a useless airhead. Kudos.

Did Ada even have any real development? I mean her feelings for Leon are quite undeniable but in the end, she'll always put her nasty goals above all else (and Leon isn't part of any of her goals, only when he has something useful in circumstances most of the time). They keep pushing her as being the game changer in every game Leon's in but that gets so old and overdone.

I think the writers realized that Leon forgetting that Ada lied to him in RE 2 and ignoring that she's still working for bad guys in RE 4 was bad writing. I mean, he knew her for less than one night, in which 80% of the time she was this haughty woman who treated him poorly, then she kissed him and then she betray his trust, then she play dead 6 years, and when they finally meet again the first thing she does is point a gun at him and proceeds to tell him to let someone he cares about die in exchange for sleeping with her, everything for at the end arrogantly suggest him to go with her, when Ashley still being around and after taking a sample of the Plaga to traffic with it 💀. I mean, it's clear that she cares about him, but the problem it's that the girl has no problem with making the cake and eat it too, so Leon ends up not being able to trust her, not to mention that he sees her every eclipse or something. With Ashley on the other hand being the president's daughter, she has a better chance of operating in the same environments as Leon, and to have a better develop of their relationship. She could become an essential support for Leon, a person who could potentially bring peace of mind after his missions and who he can trust and be person he was before he became an agent, I mean Leon during the whole game was really pissed off at everything and everyone, but with Ashley he managed to feel comfortable enough to bring out his kind and playful side. I don't know if the devs will do it, but it would be great if they took advantage of the Remake universe, to give us something different that the same old song with Leon and Ada, or even worse if they change the nature of Ada's character just so she can get the guy. It would be a tremendous waste, since Ada is one of the characters with the most potential for development if they only had the courage to make her something more than a nice piece of meat for Leon.
