Leon is joined by Brand New Heavies' Carleen Anderson and Michael Franti of Spearhead on a special and intimate set at the Paradiso venue in Amsterdam.
Backed by Leon's own DOX Orchestra, and the Zapp! string quartet, he re-arranged and re-mixed a selection of his own masterpieces.
Here they perform the Minnie Riperton classic he penned for her seminal 1974 'Perfect Angel' album.

Beautiful rendition, Leon Ware will always be the undisputed underground king of heart wrenching soul. Loved how they broke into the "Lyrics To Go" instrumental at the end and let Michael does his thing! Sent chills up my spine!

Leon wrote it first and then after hearing it Berry Gordy persuaded him to arrange it with Marvin Gaye and rewrite some of the lyrics for the I Want You Album. They are actually released as a full album of his own.

@s8f360 similiar to me. I knew "I want you", but no Leon Ware. Over so many years. I knew Maxwell, 2 weeks ago i wondered again, that Leon Ware has (co-)written that song. One brother that nearly slipped my attention. What a catastrophy that would have been! Followed Carleen from the very beginning. I love that woman! Stevie, Curtis, Marvin, Leon, Gil Scott-Heron, Isleys, Maxwell, Carleen, Minnie, Syreeta..... all the way! Vibrating! Carleen has her own channel i saw today.

I'm a FAN of Leon Ware & Carleen Anderson. Micheal Franti & Spearhead are tight. I'm a HARDCORE fan of Hip Hop and Soul. That said, I would have preferred Franti's performance seperated. Especially trying to emcee over Tribe's version. Honest truth, word up.

I totally disagree , you think that Mister Leon Ware was deaf or dumb to mistreat a classic song he wrote himself ? He was a music genius and allowed a touch of creativity to put up a new flavor by adding Michael Franti , who is not a chump by the way . Mister acknowleged talent when he heard it and it gave a new and different flavor to his own written song . My humble point of view 😊😊😊

On the ‘why I came to California’ song (which is one of my all time favourites) I liked the rap, it seemed right and was smooth and put a new spin on the track, it’s just on this particular track, on this particular performance, it spoiled the vibe imo, it was just too sensual, too perfect to add any rap. I’m not saying he’s not a valid contributor, just wasn’t quite right on this one.
