Wallace and Bernstein come from remarkably similar backgrounds-born in 1918 to Russian Jewish parents and raised in Brookline MA.

I must confess, I was disappointed. Bradley Cooper did his best, and he is a good actor, but nobody can play Bernstein. He was too unique, too brilliant, too musical, for anyone to play him. The movie is worth seeing, but don't hold your expectations too high.

This segment shows LB’s love for music & his desire to share that love w/people around the world. But that took away a lot of private time he otherwise could have spent composing, which he alluded to at the end of the interview. While Lenny regretted not being a more prolific writer, the overall legacy he left behind ensures that he will never be forgotten.

I have been a fan of Bernstein all my life , even when i was a child during his broadcasting tv program " young people concert " . Great musician ,Great conductor, great composer, great pianist, and the most important thing, great teaching to the young musicians and conductors . He was the man who revolutionized the art of conducting of the XX century . His legacy in performance contemporary music at that time is immeasurable. Specially in conducting for the first time all the Mahler's cycle, listen well, all cycle all over the world , after Mengelberg , around 1920 in Vienna. Apart to be a genius, He was a pacifist, humanist, believer, disinterested in money, in fame and was always in favor of the noble causes of humanity, perhaps because he survived the genocide of the Second World War and all the xenophobia of it. He was the antithesis of karajan.....

marcelouz Yes Yes all this.......and he was also a human being as well, egotistical, vain self centred, fivestar living, drug, alcohol addictions, charismatic in bundles, sexy, a brilliant conducter, sharp witted, emotional, brilliant communicator, teacher ,pianist, liked dogs, athletic, tennis squash, swimming water skiing, snow skiing, insomniac , night bird, God the list is endless,he died relatively early72 but lived a life of absolute plenty, smoking was his worst demon he did that in excess as well.....he in his own words "loved excess" what a man...R.I.P L.B.

Check out the Young People’s Concert where he talks about song form and uses a Beatles song as an example, there’s an audible gasp from the audience when they realize what he’s explaining. He knew exactly how to make something accessible to anyone

Interesting but I never was a fan, although I respect him as a composer. He got the most out of his celebrity and it wasn't always pretty. He hurt his wife and those who loved him. The fact she knew about him when they married doesn't mean much. It was still cruel and not the way one treats a loved one. He was indiscreet and got sloppy. It's not that hard to keep hurtful things hidden even for a famous person to.

I feel that Lenny and I share a kindred spirit. He died two years before I was born, and my musical talent is limited, but I completely identify with his boundless energy, passion, and commitment. He and I both love to be the center of attention, and we love to bring joy to others. We are both natural teachers, who care about sharing our passions with the rising generation.

This is so much more satisfying than MAESTRO, good as it was. I imagine thats why Copper decided to concentrate on his marriage. Hos career is very well documented and we have his own words and own voice readily available.

Came to this after seeing a clip of the Bradley Cooper vehicle. I'm a Kansas Citian, so it's really cool to see KC featured in this piece hosting a Bernstein festival attended by the man himself.

Jesus....Bradley Cooper really over exaggerated Bernstein's voice in the movie. Bernstein sounds nornal. The way Cooper portrayed his voice just sounds fucked up.

Too bad maestro never got to see a day where it was as obvious as it is now that supporting the Black Panthers was unquestionably morally correct.

Felicia Bernstein naively hosted the BPP, being unaware of the group’s anti-Zionist stance. It was embarrassing for Lenny, having to do damage control in order to maintain his working relationship w/the Israel Philharmonic.

Mike Wallace has to be one of the most unpleasant people ever. I guess it's because everyone he interviewed was more accomplished, creative and successful than him. He couldn't take it.
