First I didn't really recognize Tom, maybe a bit because of his german synchronization- But when he sat there in the campfire light and talked about his father and the squirrel, I was like "Oh my.. Is that Tom Hardy? I love Tom Hardy! Fitzgerald is an asshole, but he's portrayed by Tom Hardy.. What shall I do?" And when I saw the movie the second time, I kinda lived Fitzgerald. Damnit.

I usually don't pay attention to special effects etc. They're just a tool to tell a story. That said, that *Bear Sequence* actually impressed me, it looks incredibly realistic. An Oscar nod wouldn't surprise me. Fantastic movie, great performances from everybody.

Funny seeing the different styles. DiCaprio is smart, almost perfect tailored while Hardy is pretty much the opposite which makes him seem more relate-able.

I came to hear what these film antagonists had to say. Right away I was distracted by Leo's red string on his left wrist. It is a talisman, a Jewish folk custom to ward off misfortune brought about by the "evil eye." The tradition is popularly thought to be associated with Kabbalah and religious forms of Judaism. Omg.... I know exactly where they shot the bear scene now. It was just up the road from my school. A few classmates and I tried to go see if we could see anything, but it was pretty deep in the forest and by the time we got off class and tried to go find them, all the trucks were driving away. If we had known what was actually going on, we probably would not have gone to check it out. It sounds like the shoot was pretty intense.

Mountain men were called "hair faces" by Natives, had superior strength, endurance, courage, knowledge of the environment, wisdom, than American soldiers of today. Growing up I was fascinated by that era in our history and read countless books. Revenant portrayed that time period par excellence. All deserve Academy Awards and for the cinematography.
