The interesting lesson is realizing how normal swords and other weapons were to everyday people back in the day. Awesome performance.

I think the lady in the red/back dress, actually knows how to use a short-sword.. Beautiful and well done. Thank you.

It’s so interesting that I actually figured out that this piece inspired Peter Warlock’s Mattachins (sword dance) in Capriol Suites in 1926, amongst other works in Arbeau’s works. It’s a fun looking dance that makes me wish there was an additional sword fighting/dancing competition aside from fencing 😅. Excellent all around!

Beautiful setting, costumes, dance, attitude of the girls, music everything! Is like travelling back in time. I think some people must have gotten hurt by accident while dancing this! I know I would have! People from the past had a very particular sense of humour!

Amazing! A swordfight dance! I have never seen a dance like this before. But I would also say DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. Because these ladies clearly have real skill in handling these swords - especially as swords like those being used could easily cause injury amongst inexperienced people. Still, these ladies certainly did it really well.

Is this dance relate to 1 of English Morris Basque, etc. dances? What sort if women originally danced this. + why ? Feudal aristocrat women at times led husbands etc feudal armies, while some ruing queens often did so? Or was this dance a novelty or -----??

Nearly everyone is cheering for a job well done. Their moms, however, are probably gripping their chairs and gritting their teeth and wondering why they never thought to tell their daughters not to dance with knives, as well as run with scissors.

Jeez, while the choreography and the perfect sync in steps is beyond words but playing with a real sword is not a good idea. Mistakes can happen and once hurt, it cannot be taken back. Instead of swords, it could have been played with wooden sticks.
@bblovesyou13 жыл бұрын
They’ll be dance swords, used in lots of different types of dance and just bits of blunt metal in the shape of swords.
@rudolfinskyples5 ай бұрын
We borrowed them from our fighting men. So swords are not blunt metal but not really sharpe either. ;)@@bblovesyou1

Historically would this dance be performed by women? The use of blades makes it seem very male. And, yikes! I'd bet there were so accidental, or perhaps not so accidental stabbings!
