In my opinion it's all due to the top class work of the whole team - scriptwriter, director, cameraman, actors, choir director, lighting, sound engineer, editor.... Like the fingers of one hand. Despite all the difficulties, the crowning achievement of this team's work was a brilliant film, a true masterpiece. In my opinion, such films are born when all the members of the team give their best to every scene, every second, when the cameraman knows his job perfectly, when the actor mortgages his flat so that the film can be made, when the director and composer write the music and lyrics together, and a world-class choirmaster directs the choir. The film is made up of many such moments. With excellent acting from the actors, masterful performances and the interweaving of top vocals elevate this film to incredible heights. The adults work with the highest dedication, regardless of the scale of the roles. And the children. It's incredible! More than two dozen unique types, different, bright, expressive. Alive. But all of them are overshadowed by the game of a talented child Jean-Baptiste Maunier. I was absolutely thrilled with him in this film. A beautiful voice that was transparent, ringing, gentle and melodic. His impeccable command of his own voice was incredible! Everything was natural: natural, his divine voice, his natural beauty, natural feelings, from somewhere came the inimitable acting skills at his 12,5 years old! In one child both beauty, talent and a sea of charm! What a rare combination when there is beauty and there is a voice! On a separate note, I would like to mention little Maxence Perrin, who plays the role of Pépinot. I don't think he's acting. Not at all. He's just completely oblivious to the camera. When he's not in the foreground, you can see him making grimaces, dancing or wiggling, all of which is clearly not scripted and which gives the film a naturalness that makes it real. The exception to this is the final scene of the film, when he leaves with Clément Mathieu. More than twenty years have passed since the beginning of the film, the children have grown up, but for us, the audience, they are still children with their beautiful voices.
