As a technically savvy coloratura myself, ANYONE who leaves critical comments after this flawless performance needs to get up there and sing this with as much technical precision and ease and then come back here and reassess #eyeroll. "I'm a voice teacher" my rump. Y'all are really sad, sitting behind your laptops grasping tightly to your NPR tote bags, self-righteously analyzing singers' flaws while drenched in the sadness of your limited careers and lives. Erin is a beast, and if you can't listen to singers without tearing them apart and criticizing them to exhaustion, I think that says a lot about you boo...

Singer you may be, but you're no critic. "Let's hear you do it" is the response of a fangurl, not a serious and knowledgeable lover of the art.

I also think you can't criticize after just hearing a recording. It is totally different to hear live. And this isn't even a studio recording, which is the next best thing. Greater voices are also more easily sound worse in recording. For the record, I thought she was absolutley amazing in this recording. And Morley's resume can confirm her amazingness. But the more fame a singer have, the more critisim they face for some reason.

Watch it live in 2017 😎. Was exact same like this record. She is magician.

She's not a dramatic coloratura, she just projects more in her lower middle than most coloraturas, whose voices tend to disappear below B or C. She sounds louder way up high because she has an unusually well developed super head voice that is smoothly blended into her head voice.
@jjh24569 жыл бұрын
What you described is a dramatic coloratura. There is also a video from the Met if her doing Violetta which is a dramatic coloratura role and you can see that she is true dramatic coloratura.

JENNIFER! I love when I find actual FRIENDS and fellow singers in the comments of KZfaq vids XD. I love Erin. She's amazing. I always feel like it's less important to stick singers into endlessly debatable fachs as opposed to assess whether they can sing a role beautiful in the context of the house and their colleagues. There is a ton of overlap in this region of lyric/ dramatic coloraturas. :)

And that's also because she use to sing Strauss, the squillo she needs for that

This is a very punchy lyric coloratura.

This is amazing. I saw the production on the LiveinHD and she repeated her performance again. The last note she SINGS is an Ab ABOVE a high C. I believe that I read that this is the highest note that's ever been sung on the stage at the Met.

il faut ce genre d'interprétation pour se rendre à l'évidente : Rachele Gilmore a placé la barre très très haut tant au niveau technique que pureté de la voix, c'est limpide et très agréable à écouter et à réréréréréécouter.

That's cause she's dramatic coloratura as opposed to a lyric coloratura that this role calls for.

I saw it tonight live. She's definitely got a bit more vocal weight than many coloraturas, but this recording makes her sound much louder than she actually is. For what it's worth, Erin Morley and Kate Lindsey were amazing.

This is not a Wagner opera but it still is opera and good music. To turn it into a Broadway musical is ridiculous. Sher seems to want to outdo Zeffirelli. The first and third acts are over the top in terms of production. I can't understand that the Met would put up with this production. Is it a sign of things to come? Then serious opera fans should look somewhere else.
@renzosalieri7416 жыл бұрын
dunrob36 Yes! And it is Offenbach Opera :) Offenbach make a fantasy opera like Wagner did but in a natural way
@wotan109509 жыл бұрын
A little overdecorated. As if the original aria isn't ornate enough! Offenbach scholars agree that it was originally written in G, not Ab, but was changed later in the creative process. So the top notes should be D's, not Eb's, and certainly not the Ab's that Morley sings here. Yikes, it hurts my ears.
@zamyrabyrd9 жыл бұрын
Dave Glo Not only that, but it is very foolhardy to sing the upper register like verismo. Natalie Dessay may have started a tradition but an unsafe one. The notes above the staff should ideally be thin or covered. They will penetrate over the orchestra and be more beautiful. Sutherland sang this and had her voice to the end of her life because she did things correctly.
@paolodatemipace49498 жыл бұрын
+zamyrabyrd "The notes above the staff should ideally be thin or covered" You really have no idea how singing works, do you?
@zamyrabyrd8 жыл бұрын
PaoloDatemiPace I am not only a soprano, but a teacher of singing. The extra air pressure is the problem for the upper notes that actually wear out the vocal cords. A thinner but more concentrated tone is however more beautiful.
@paolodatemipace49498 жыл бұрын
zamyrabyrd You're right about the air pressure, but completely wrong about a 'thinner but more concentrated tone,' and even more wrong was what you said about how notes above the staff should be 'thin or covered.' And considering just how many voice teachers I have encountered (some of whom are at major institutions) who are horrible technicians, your purported credentials mean nothing to me.
@paolodatemipace49498 жыл бұрын
zamyrabyrd And Dessay's numerous vocal problems had nothing to do with "treating the upper register like verismo."

Natalie Dessay, Sabine Devieilhe, Rachele Gilmore, they all perform this aria better than this lady whom I respect for trying.

@joshualouis44 жыл бұрын
am I responding to this four years late? Sure. What...uh what do you think about this is miscast? People come out here and say this shit and never back it up. Come on then, back it up. What is wrong here? I think it's an exemplary take on Olympia personally.
