Brings back memories of nearly 60 years ago. 99% of people reading this will not understand it, but I used to regularly go to watch these wrestlers and many others with my late dad at Garringtons social club in Bromsgrove.

Many years ago I was at a stag night at the local rugby club and they had some porn film highlights running on a big screen overdubbed with comments from our man Kent. Oh well done - that's his favourite move. I don't think he'll recover from that one. He's only just back from a three month layoff, will he surprise us? He can't take much more of that . . . You get the idea. An excellent time was had by all! 😊

@@WorldCupWillie Indeed in a Wrestling book i seen the great Steven regal say the hardest man in Wrestling was Les Kellett, way harder than any of the American's he wrestled. Kellett was a Yorkshire Pig Farmer by trade and legend has it a pig once bit his hand and it was swollen significantly, he turned up to the Hall and once in the dressing room told his opponent to stand on his hand, his opponent refused and he told him "stand on it or i'll stand on you" so the guy did and all the blood and puss came out. Kellett just a wrapped a bandage round it and went out and wrestled.

Les Kellett, Bert Royal, Vic Faulkner were the good guys, Mick McManus, Mr. TV Jackie Pallow, The Black Diamonds were the bad guys. My family and I used to watch them all on a Saturday afternoon when I was a kid at school. When he was younger, my PT teacher used to fetch and carry for them when they came to the Spa Centre and he told us some tales. The big name used to openly discuss what moves they were going to pull and which round they were going to make the winning move. I remember old women in the crowd hitting the "villains" with umbrellas when they were thrown through the ropes. It was all good stuff.

Glover "worked" his way through college by wrestling under the gimmick of "Leon Arras, the Man from Paris". He'd continue this until 1969 when he began acting in movies. This particular match was more than likely to promote a guest appearance on the British sitcom "Not on Your Nellie" in which Glover/Arras played "Battling Bill", a wrestler who was called upon to face "Gorgeous Gilbert", Gilbert being a regular character who was the silent boyfriend of a gay fashion designer who was somehow coerced into wrestling.

Les was a much loved and respected wrestler by his fellow wrestlers as well as his followers. He may have acted the fool but was excellent at his craft catching many an opponent out. I remember him winning the "ITV Sports presonality of the year", he lived to the grand age of 86. R.I.P. boys, am sure you are still entertaining behind those Peary Gates.

In the 1960s I was a friend of a professional wrestlers son (No name given) the two of us would go to the venue in the morning to watch both wrestler's practicing and going through the bout to see who would win this time in the evening bout. Moving to 2000 I worked in a local town hall and guess what it was the same thing again practice the bout before the evening event. In the end what the public got was entertainment at its best. So long may British professional wrestling continue to give pleasure to the people who purchase the tickets.

To be stand out as a hard man in an era when 90% of wrestlers were legit is no mean feat. In the 30/40s the majority of wrestlers were taught how to look after themselves. Leon Arras was the actor Brian Glover. In his early days as a wrestler, he was on standby in case a wrestler didn't turn up. The French wrestler Leon Arras didn't show , so Brian had to go on. As he wasn't yet famous, they just sent him out as Leon Arras and the name stuck. He was in a tag team with Bobby Graham of Sheffield as The Untouchables.

Better than anything today, the having rules for instance and not allowing punches makes it easier to wrestle, this is entertaining and pro wreslting both as it should be and needs to be learned from today

Brilliant entertainment. All history now. Great memories of Saturday afternoons infront of the tele. Grub on a tray in the living room. Great days. Remember McManus and Jackie Palo. ?😅😅😅😅😅
