Imagine being able to say... "You Were The One Who Screwed Up The Guitar With That Electric Shit"... directly to Les Paul himself.

I love hearing Chuck play in bebop tradition, his roots in jazz; and to hear him with the legendary Les Paul is treat! Great playing/music making!

Saw Chucky twice live. Never saw Les, but have watched a bunch of these videos. Jam with Chuck in C was most excellent.

What a great video! I’ve been a fan of Chuck’s since I was a kid back in the late 70’s-early 80’s. Saw him in concert almost 50 times through the years and met him after many of his shows. He’s an amazing talent (playing as well as composing), but he can be very surly and curmudgeonly, which almost ruins it.

I'm glad you mentioned the "surly and curmudgeonly" part. And you should no if you have seen him and met him so many times. I saw him only one time maybe 20 years ago and it was memorable for two reasons. First he was playing in a shopping mall for a free concert promotion by a smooth jazz station. Maybe that didn't particularly set well with Chuck. Second his electric piano cut out after just a few chords and he got visibly frustrated by it. He slammed his hands on the piano a few times to either get the attention of one of his tech people or to show his anger. As an audience member It made me uncomfortable and kinds ruined the vibe. I think my wife and I actually left a little early. Fans don't generally talk about their hero's warts and all but I think it actually makes the hero more human and relatable.

Chris, This is such a treat. My Mom grew up with Chuck and Gap in the Rochester, NY. His music filled the house growing up, and his concerts are some of my earliest memories. Did you come at this from an interest in Les Paul, or Chuck, or both? Got more ? :)
@lauramalek31282 жыл бұрын
Not sure which half of this I love more - first half where Les backs Duck or second half where Chuck backs Les. I will say I always enjoy seeing Chuck clapping his hands together softly in appreciation of the music, like he was doing near the end. It just seems so basic but very very Chuck. 💕

Chuck nailed it when he referred to the stuff played on the radio today as SHIT! Rap and hip/hop is not even music because it is void of harmony and melody, PLUS, it's more of a cultural revolution than an art form. It is the most obnoxious noise one can imagine and the cultural revolutionaries who create it and play it want it that way. Their goal is so sow the seeds of hate against the establishment and to disrespect and annoy in the process.
