The rising cost of living remains one of the biggest challenges for South African consumers and the high interest rate environment is at the centre of that distress. That’s despite monetary policy tightening being halted twice since consecutive hikes from November last year to fight high inflation. Central Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago says the central bank is trying to protect SA citizens from inflation.

I love this guy, does a great job.❤ Funny how everyone thinks all he has to do is decrease interest rates to zero and we will all be rich and prosperous😂😂😂 The reason South Africans are struggling is because of bad GOVERNMENT POLICIES. 📍📍📍

They can make the repo rate dance however they want. As long as there are not enough jobs and enough cash flow in the actual streets, then he will administer all kinds of medicines. And prices will rise until nobody cannot afford jack.

Shouldn't we not focusing on the cause of inflation that try to reduce inflation by interest rates

Shoring up the local currency at the expense of the economy does not make the rand more attractive, the markets have made this clear. SARB would be more effective if they prioritize balance rather then copying the Feds sentiment on inflation.

SARB is an extension of the US Federal Reserve. Lesetja Kganyago is doing well in that regard

Ask the U.S government federal reserve about the wage - price freeze bill. It worked very well in the U.S when they substituted the restrictive monetary policy in favour of wage - price freeze programme to deal with inflation in the 70's.

Singing from the same hymn book does not mean the song is sung in harmony. Incorporate counterpoint in the singing to guarantee harmonious songs. The concert is not only NOISY to the world but SAns too.

I only clicked hoping the anchor would be asking the questions since she has proved largely incorruptible but seeing who is interviewing the rat, I am filled with trepidation...

Not other measures of inflation- the presenter misfired on that question. The call is for a change in the monetary policy frameworks different from Inflation Targeting.
