Lesley Gore, rock's first female star, still had it 30 years after her string of 25 chart hits from 1963-1970. Strong and powerful singing.

I so much admire her. My favorite was Maybe I know, and That's the way boys are. I so the T.A.M.I. Show movie. It was great. It had Leslie Gore, Jan& Dean, The Beach Boys, The Supremes,. The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, I'm sorry some I can't recall. But it was good. That kind of show is missed, that feeling is missed. I was 12, now I'm 67. I'm glad I lived in that time. That music is timeless and priceless. I wish that there more singing today. A combo of rap and singing. Anyway, the music of the 60s was GOLD.

Outstanding example how Lesley's voice dramatically improved as she aged. Not a mystery, I guess, since she was what(?) 16 when she recorded "It's My Party". Amazing the amount of pure pop songs she and her people got ahold of. Something like 14 Top Ten songs. Not sure that there's a track I can't listen too. Produced a couple of classics long after her career crested. Will always be remembered for "You Don't Own Me" but as previously noted as her voice matured the song took on a new intensity. Can't really be said to have been "out of the closet" she did maintain in later life that she never was duplicitous about her orientation. Sounds right to me.
