Comedy also requires a kind of empathy, so the majority of comedians aren't conservative. There are some conservative comedians who are funny, but their comedy isn't even really "right-wing".

This is a very real conversation! And it's funny I find the best discord among people that are just supposed to make us laugh.... Seriously comedians have some of the best conversations. Cuz they're used to operating without a filter in order to get a laugh or to tell a story. And it makes their private conversations really honest

This is funny but the sad truth. What an excellent conversation. These days, I get more truth and better social commentary from comedians than I do from the news media or our political leaders. Thanks to the likes of Leslie, Conan, Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers I can count on getting a straight confirmation of what is really going on. Thank you to our comedic newscasters....where would we be without them? We would only have the politically aligned and scripted talking heads.

I disagree with the idea that everyone is afraid of new things. IMO corporation's are afraid of making new things. They keep recycling old shows and movies over and over. They are convinced that new ideas are a risk because they have not been tested. Considering how a lot of remakes are flopping I would say that old intellectual properties are not a safe bet either.

Good point, people buy what's being sold but the people selling it also made a lot of decisions. In cars, does everyone *love* SUVs or do our laws make it easier to build and sell them cheaper so manufacturers focus on those products and then we buy what's available? Does everyone *love* the MCU or is that where the most investment, marketing, and hype is centered in the movie industry, drawing all the resources and eyeballs? It's heavily a corporate thing, people in C-suites playing 'financial virtual reality games' while forgetting the actual things that are being made and going out into the world.

Ironically, the two musicians she praised are distinctly retro in their style. She's right that their reputation would benefit if we forgot about past artists, because then people wouldn't catch on to the fact that they're rehashing what's already been done. (also, Mars is already very popular so I don't know what she's worried about). We already have a disastrously short cultural memory, and while the mediocre or fraudulent have reaped worldly benefit from that, our society and our music have not.

She's showing her age a bit here which I can relate to. Bruno Mars is the new guy that everyone should discover before it's too late? His first number 1 record was 12 years ago and he's been putting out hit after hit ever since, if anything he's nearly a legacy artist by now. And Conan is agreeing with her about celebrating the new but he'll often go on about The Beatles (who I love too) and will rarely if ever rave about newer musical artists.

@@gerrydooley951 I'm the same age as Conan and grew up with The Beatles and Beach Boys too. I'm not sure what "sounds" you're referring to that I was talking about in my comment, do you mean Bruno Mars? The point I was trying to make was that it becomes less common for people to truly embrace newer musical artists as they get older, even if they're open minded the way Conan and Leslie are. It's ironic that she singled out Mars and Paak in talking about embracing new in music, if you listen to their recent hit "Leave the Door Open" it's virtually indistinguishable from something that might have come out in the late 70s or 80s.

I understand she mentioned him in passing but it's the fact he's known for basketball greatness vs what horrible thing he did highlights the problem. We, ALL of us, want to call out who we hate or disagree with - but if we love them or what they do - we defend or become apologist for them.

Breath of fresh air, right here. And they are absolutely right, especially on the owning up conversation. I have noticed, more and more, especially with the current generation entering the workforce- no one want's to admit they don't know something; they become instantly defensive, taking "training" as "getting in trouble". No one admits they are wrong, there's always a line of reason as to "why", instead of just shutting up and learning from it.

It is on all sides, and has been for generations long before -- older employees unwillingly to admit limitations towards new profitable tactics, new employees have to absorb what worked for the elders, and improve upon it. If you're gonna pick on the younger generations at least be fair and pick on the older generations that A) raised them and B) created the management structures that encourage that behavior out of young employees. Business is driving a lot of this; paying for development is seen as a sunk cost instead of an investment, so everyone thinks everyone just needs to perform from a cold start at all costs. That misconception didn't just generate magically from nowhere in the brains of young people. They're responding to a real world that existed before them.

I don’t really understand what she’s talking about but she sounds passionate.

I love Leslie, but it got harder to follow as she got more passionate. I caught most of it though…

How do you not understand what she’s talking about?
@crnkmnky

@@BarryB.Benson It's not so clear. She's using vague words in a way that is open to interpretation. Plus she's cussing a lot. I'll get back to you with a detailed transcript analysis if you're sure she made sense. 😸

She's right... I'm stubborn on music, but she's right. Anderson and Bruno are one of the doppest duos! But individually, obviously incredible!

I feel like Conan should be doing more of something, or less of something. A bit more front and center is what I need. I absolutely love the podcast of course. More HISTORY maybe, on film... 👍 LESLIE IS BRILLIANT

Here's the real issue.... what they're saying has been happening for most of human existence. Just now... people can access those same people more. My family have generations of people who can't admit they're wrong, that's not a new thing. Andrew Jackson used mud slinging tactics in his campaign and committed atrocities and even when called out, blamed everyone else but himself. Nothing has changed and that's the real issue. The sensitivity that is growing in the youth is brand new and its battling against the deeply engraved younger generations, so we have no idea if it'll be good or bad for humans, because we've never experienced it before.

No.....we compare from what was truly good from the past. Bruno Mars is a photo copy of talent from the 90s. Yes Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson were great, and we need to appreciate what is good now. It's not like Adele is not one of the best ever, and she is talented now. Quality is quality, and copies are just sad. We have alot of so called stars now that don't deserve it.

I like Leslie, and I obviously have no problem with occasional profanity, as evidenced by my profile pic. But why are SOOOOO MANY F bombs necessary? It detracts from what she’s actually saying.

haha...cursing...u really believe that words are curses and they then offend u? There are no bad words, they are inherently neutral. It's how u use words than lead to being interpreted as a bad or negative or positive statement.
