"Wong Fu Presents" is a series where we highlight great work from our friends and peers. There are a lot of amazing films out there that don't really get seen, so we want to share our audience with these talented individuals to show them there's so much talent out there beyond Wong Fu!
We continue with another dramatic short that asks if "finding one's soulmate" can be answered mathematically. Phil and Wes sit down with the writer and director, Arturo Perez Jr, to discuss his vision.

There are by far a lot of reasons why most people don't believe in soulmates. No one will ever be perfect for you, but you'll be perfect together. People will fall in love at the right place at the right time. There's no such thing as soulmates, just a perfect timing with the right person.

I'd like the think there's such thing as a soul mate but I know there isn't haha It's just a nice thought ya know? Because how you find your lover depends on your lifestyle as well as where you live. (/start off aka are born) You essentially have a million "soul mates" (someone that you'd want to marry) all over the world but because of how your life is, you met that 1 person out of those millions that could have fit your ideals. I think that's also another reason why it makes it more special when you meet that special someone. I'd like to define that as soul mate rather than the usual, "We were destined/meant to be together" definition of "soul mate"

iBeFloe That may be so, but of all those "millions" you've described you don't spend your life with just that 1 person. You keep going through various relationships not knowing if they'll last or not. Sometimes the love you have at 16, 25 and 50 are different. Sure you were destined to meet that 1 special person, but you may never know if someone else is more _perfect_ for you than the one you're with. It is a nice thought to have though, that someone is made for you.

People are not perfect. There is no perfect person out there for anyone. Love is not about finding the perfect person, but rather looking past those imperfections and loving that person anyway.

I'm so glad that there's more films out there that don't portray love as a perfect, romantic thing. Sometimes love is harsh and brutal and ugly. And if soulmates really do exist, does that mean that if you never find your soulmate that you are incomplete your entire life? I think everyone is complete just as they are. You don't need someone to complete you. You are you.

thanks for oversimplifying everything that love is- like others have said it's about timing and what you're looking for at that point of your life-- it's all beautifully dynamic. love isn't meant to be understood by just categorizing and dividing a population by arbitrary factors. it's how all of those traits interact and coexist with each other holistically in the person you love and somehow it works.

What a talented guy, the short did exactly what art is intended to do, question our version of reality. I wish more people could see work like this, beautiful cinematography and really powerful writing which the actors carried through wonderfully. Great job!

I find that the beauty in this is what defies the calculations. Everyone tries to calculate the risks of getting hurt. People are methodical when chasing romance. The calculations can all be correct and that the methods are sound. These things are only solid until a certain point. When you find your soul mate all numbers go out the window. Only two things matter. You and Them.

I can't believe you made this idea into a beautiful short. I've been pondering the probability of two soulmates meeting mathematically for over a year now, for fun, without knowing your website exists. I'm happy that others have thought the same thing. Soulmate, I think I believe in it. God creates this amazing person for another amazing person. They have ups and downs, but they will make it cus their love is strong. And only love itself is really powerfull. But the person that completes you is really God him self.
