Great lesson Jennifer! I like that you explained the differences in the pronunciation of can / can't. For more advanced students, they may be able to add more information to clarify the negative, like "No, I can't, but I can ride a skateboard."

Thank you for watching and liking the lesson, Sergei! 😃 I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, kids tend to be more relaxed and less worried in general, so maybe that's why a healthy kid is able to do more than us stressed, tired adults. Ha ha.

This is really good The past for can is could You negate with can't And not with shan't I hope that's understood
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 3 жыл бұрын
We limited our focus and practice in this session. It made things easier. "Can" vs. "be able to" would be an interesting topic down the line. More modals coming soon! By the way, how often do you really use "shan't"?
@stunninglad1
@stunninglad1 3 жыл бұрын
@@Englishwithjennifer Can you help me? Could you help me? - 'Could' not just a past tense as you know. 'Being able to' was also the definition I gave for 'can' in my lesson. 'Shan't' is not as popular as 'won't.' You shall continue with modals; but I shan't. I've milked that subject for all it's worth. Pronouns are next for me. As you know, there are a walloping ten categories to cover. With more types of pronouns than we can shake a stick at, I shall be kept busy.
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 3 жыл бұрын
So you shall! And so shall I! (I think that meets my quota for "shall" within a calendar year.)

Wouldn't = hypothetical: I wouldn't want to be stuck in a traffic jam for three hours on a hot day. Don't = real, likely: I don't want to be stuck in traffic, so I'll wait to drive into the city.

@@Englishwithjennifer Thank you a lot. How can I distinguish between gerund phrase and present participle phrase ?
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 3 жыл бұрын
Gerunds behave like nouns (subject, object, complement). Participles can be part of a progressive verb, they can be part of a reduced clause, and they can function like adjectives.
