Lesson 27 : Raga Khamaj in Flute/Banshi/Bansuri - Part 1

Hello everyone! Today we are happy to present a session on Raga Khamaj. We thought to start with Raga Yaman before, but Yaman Session is a bit long and will take some patience to follow. So we start Khamaj to create a different mode in learning sequence. There is a beautiful formation of this Raga with both the Shuddha Ni and Komal Ni. This raga has been explored more in the lighter forms of Hindustani Classical Music such as Thumri, Tappa etc. Yet a few compositions in Dhrupad and Khayal are found as well. (ref-Wiki).

Is the 3 finger closed for a particular scale producing that particular sound? For example 3 finger closed on a C scale flute produces Sa. Similarly does an E base flute produce the sound Ga with 3 fingers closed?

Generally finger size does not create problem. by practicing all can play all type of flute. However, what about a G # Bass? Is it comfortable to you?

You may use bass flutes( big size). It will make low pitch sound. Many face problem like you. Thanks.

A Bass is not that much deep sound. F, F#, E Bass is good. We prefer E Bass, Thanks.
