Oh my !! This quilt brought the tears. I had the same quilt that my mama made me, all hand applique & small hand stitched quilted. Each one was from remnants of clothes sewed for me in the summer. Miss her SO much. I wasn't interested in quilting until my mid 50's recently. Wish I had paid more attention back then 😢

Thank you for sharing this very personal quilt with us! Also don't be embarrassed about the stains. If there were no stains on such a light-colored, old quilt noone would believe you it was used and loved. Stains happen to everyone! I am so inspired to try and recreate a block like that.

LOVELY LOVELY QUILT!!! I have one of an older girl with a parasol. It has a LOT of hand stitching to make hands legs etc. I LOVE the "leaves" your ggma made at the intersections!! People back then really knew how to do those amazing little touches like that!! BY HAND, It's just amazing.

I love your Sunbonnet Sue quilt! This was a great video showing what your great grandmother made. I am presently repairing my Sunbonnet Sue quilt that my grandmother made in the 1950s. This pattern holds such sweet memoies for me.Thank you for sharing.

I love the whole thing but especially the embroidery detail in the hats-how she has 2 half flowers at the "brim" of each hat to indicate depth. How talented she was! You must take after her!

I just discovered your channel while you opened the MSQC box contents. I had to watch this one and I wish I could get that Sunbonnet Sue pattern! I would like Overall Sam too. I bought the accuquilt die and I'm disappointed in it because it's not the same...I wasted my money and they are not cheap. I made a Sunbonnet Sue and Overall Sam quilt in High School (back in the 70's) and it was all hand turn applique! I embroidered the hats but didn't do the blanket stitch or the little stitches around the shapes. Picking out the colors for the outfits was so much fun. Overall Sam's overall & hat matched her dress and his shirt matched hers. It was my first quilt and last one until the invention of the Olfa rotary cutter. That's one thing you didn't mention......no rotary cutters and it was awful cutting the borders and sashing! It wasn't too bad cutting out all the applique parts. I sent mine out to be quilted and wasn't too happy with it but I used it until it fell apart. I had a fan quilt my Grandmother made. It' was like a Dresden plate but she used 1/4 of the plate in each block's corner. It became thread bare too but I saved one block and I take it out now and then and just stare at those tiny quilted stitches. I have tried hand quilting but my stitches are not that small. I can see why someone came up with big stitch quilting!

What a lovely quilt. I have seen that puffiness in quilts at craft shows before but they were more what I call picture quilts where a scene has been done with free motion quilting and the leaves on the tree were ever so slightly stuffed but I never realised it is such an old technique and used generally. I love it. The Sun bonnet Sue's are so cute. I wonder what sort of fabric it is.? It looks like a lawn fabric. I suppose they didn't have specific quilting fabric in those days. It's a very special quilt.

Oh wow! all hand done, just stunning work. I have just warmed to the Sunbonnet Sue applique it's so pretty. I am looking at the block and wondering if they put together in a quilt as you go? so beautifully done its hard to see how this was constructed. Hi from France :) I do Sunbonnet too and I want to know how to do the very little piece of Sunbonnet. For me it's difficult. Am I the one with this problem or it's not so easy to do ? For example, to make little shoes, little hand, little curve piece. I know the technic but when it's a little piece it's hard. Thanks... if you have a video tutorial to explain how to do that it woul be great :)
