I think the stories for the later years are more dramatic whereas as the stories of the earlier years (well once they started becoming successful from 62 onwards) would be more fun, still a lot of drama, but they would be the more up beat, feel good stories.

Andrew: The ‘mystery’ of George‘s missing acoustic guitar part in the Let It Be version of For You Blue may be solved. In the book contained in the 50th anniversary box set of Let It Be, in the track by track chapter, it talks about George recording a new vocal for the song in January 1970. It says he used the acoustic guitar track for the new vocal. That may explain it. Richard

I am happy with the new mix & the Glyn Johns mix but the rest is quite disappointing. In my opinion, the choice cuts have already been released on Anthology 3, which is a much better listen than these Get Back rehearsals & sessions.

Can someone explain to me why the track "Suzy Parker" aka "Suzy Parlour" wasn't included in the "Let It Be" boxset as an outtake?

I cannot understand why this wasn’t included either. Most of us have heard all of the bootlegs, and obviously there are some tracks that were never going to be in the set, but this one is a mystery.

Andrew: Have you noticed that, in the song For You Blue on the Let It Be album, we hear the acoustic guitar introduction by George, and then the acoustic guitar is never heard again? That has always puzzled me, especially when it is compared to the lovely version of the song on Let It Be Naked. The acoustic guitar is also prominent in the Glyn Johns mix on the Get Back bonus album. One wonders why Giles didn’t restore it in the new remix. I guess the better question is why Phil Spector mixed it out. Any thoughts? Richard

I'd like to know the answer Richard, not sure whether anyone other than Phil Spector would have known the answer, but those little acoustic licks were definitely worthy of being kept in!

My only qualm about the 4 song EP was that it should have included one more song. It should have had the "Get Back" single version. They have the B Side, "Don't Let Me Down", on it. Why not the A Side?

Has anyone noticed the two acoustic guitars on Maggie Mae on the main album have swapped channels? Also I was intrigued to hear the piano intro on the title song was not only louder but also fuller. I looked at the waveform and saw that it's been ADT'd. So there are two pianos (it was originally recorded in mono) and separated in the stereo 'picture'. The right channel piano is a few milliseconds behind the left. A close listen reveals lots of differences in the new mixes. The girls' harmonies are very quietly evident in the right channel of Across The Universe, and the Indian instrument is now audible earlier - half-way into the first verse. In the 2009 remaster it begins there, but is almost completely inaudible until the first chorus.

Great video Andrew & for me the Giles Martin remix of Let It Be is by far the best version ever with too many highlights to mention as every track shines especially Across The Universe, The Long & Winding Road & the title track in it's extended album version coda has never sounded better with the guitar mixed back so it doesn't drown out Paul's vocals.... Get Back is raw & stunning & I'm intrigued about the different mixes on the Japanese version which I'm sure will be compared soon on here! The outtakes shine as well & as for the EP it is what it is & worth it for the stunning mix of Don't Let Me Down. Loving it.

As much as I love the Giles Martin remix, I’m not finding it all that much better than my original US pressing aside from some surface noise. Yes it does sound different, but better. I dunno.

Going back to the point on 'You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)' I always thought it was recorded back in 67, so I too know it wouldn't be include on the Let it be boxset, but according to Wiki, (which I know is not always accurate) the track was finished off by John and Paul on the 30th April 69. So with this new info, I'm not sure why it wasn't released on this set? unless they are saving it for a new past masters??

Thanks again Andrew really enjoyed the world cups and review, I was there for the whole stream I just think my comments got missed in the mix of the others. my opinion on the new mix is I think it’s a really well balanced remix with nothing revolutionary but nothing that can be criticised or be seen as a detriment to the songs.

Thanks for the review Andrew, I was curious to hear what you’d think. I wanted to ask how you’d compare or consider the Let It Be ‘Naked’ album compared to this latest remix. Don’t Let Me Down on Naked is the best version I’ve heard. And I thought the performance of Let It Be on Naked with the clarity of Paul’s voice is supreme. For my money, I’d get the new Let It Be remix LP (main album only); any of the good extra tracks were already on Anthology.

I enjoy the Let It Be"Naked" version as I am yet to hear this latest "Let It Be" release,it is in the post and is supposed to arrive next week.Paul was behind the release of "Naked" because he hated Phil Spector's "wall of sound" treatment of it.

Appraising the hires (stereo) version from the blu-ray is great, but only scratches the surface. The Dolby Atmos multi-channel mix is a revelation. I'd highly recommend that you invest in some kit that will do the various 5.1 blu-rays justice. Pepper is subtle, the White Album & Abbey Road better, but Let It Be really hits the 'surround sweet spot' for me. Loving the channel, BTW. John (down't road in Wakefield).

Hi Andrew As I write this I'm only half way through your video, watching the World Cup tonight. But you have just mentioned Paul delaying his Re issues my question is somewhat morbid but If and when Paul goes to join Lucy in the sky who will oversee his output ? Apart from his Brother and son no-one in his family seems to be in the music industry. Will he sell his catalogue as Bob and Neil Young etc have done? John has Sean and diminishing input from Yoko. George has Dhani and Olivia Harrison. Ringo has Ringo. Cheers

It's a big question and we certainly don't know the answer. Perhaps his daughter Mary might be involved, she seems to have a hand in various projects he's done. One thing I'm sure of is there'll be a plan already worked out and agreed.

Andrew, you always say that you never got into the bootlegs, but I am very willing to hook you up with everything of interest, if you'd like. I'd be happy to put all of it on a memory stick and mail it your way, or some other way. It is a bit like you say, the stuff that is available is very much things like every take of A Hard Day's Night, I'm a Loser and many others. The complete Get Back sessions, though, is truly something I believe every fan should make their way through at some point, at the very least skip around.
@AndrewDixonMusic

Thank you, very kind offer. I do have that vast majority of this stuff, including I think all the Nagra reels from Let It Be, on a separate hard drive, that I got back in the days of Napster, and I've never done anything with any of it. So if I want to, I could get at it straight away, I just tend to stick to the official stuff! Cheers.
@gulrotkake
@gulrotkake 2 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewDixonMusic You should indeed have most of it then. All substantial material was from one leak in the 80s, as well as the stolen nagra reels. For day to day listening, I also stay with the official stuff. Listening to all the takes of Help is an experience I wouldn't want to be without, but it is something one does sparingly. The 19 minutes of studio chatter between overdubs for Think for Yourself is a goldmine, though. I've listened to that so many times. I did just go through all my stuff over the last couple of days and put some 30 gigabytes of bootlegs in a google drive, so you change your mind or ever feel you want to listen to any of it, I'd be very happy to add you to it.

@@joe34012 One fun way of doing it is day by day as it happened, but the next time that's possible is January 2025. For a more realistic approach I suggest listening to the two last days first to get a feel for whether the whole thing is for you. The last two days would be the rooftop concert, and on the last day trying to nail Let it Be and A Long and Winding Road.
