Usually male actors go for quiet sobbing and clean noises not using their nose and the animation tries to keep them as sexy as possible so the SINGLE MANLY TEAR trope. Here the actor sobbed profoundly and using his nose, the animation made Subaru look frail and hurt, not sexy at all.

However, the only way to 'retry' is to die which is honestly sort-of downplayed in the anime. Dying is a terrible experience and it erodes one's psychological health in quite a bad way. Thus Subaru is caught between a rock of grief/self-loathing and a hard place of physical/psychological torture.

Sin Archbishop Of Gluttony from the beginning, he always thought Emilia was best girl. There was literally not a single moment where he valued rem over Emilia. That’s why even after one of the best confessions in all of anime, he chose Emilia over rem. This scene only reinforced the fact that he loves Emilia. That’s kind of the point of the story.

It was where Sinon went to see Kirito while he's still "dead brain". Tiese and Ronye were watching him to keep him safe. When they saw Sinon and she introduced herself to them saying that she's Kirito's friend, they got all sad and they said along the lines "Another girl. Are all of Kirito's friends girls?". Them saying that *killed* the emotional part of that scene.

I fully understand what you mean. Anime tells stories that affect our emotional side a lot, but also bring important reflections to our lives. If it makes you feel any better, Rem is not dead, she is just in a state of suspended animation, probably she will have relevance at another point in the story. I think it's important for other characters to have development as well.
