In the song The Search he talks about looking for the map to hope, so I think you hit the nail on the head!

You hit the nail on the head; he's a rapper who happens to be Christian. He's always done a good job of not getting super religious with his music, so even non-Christians can listen and not feel like they're having religion forced on them. To me, it seems like he hit rock bottem after the last album (-Interlude-) and a lot of one-off lines give us insight into that. This whole album kinda has a vibe that he hit his low point, and he sees his faith as his only way to pull himself out of his pit. Look at the end of the music video for 'Leave Me Alone', he's handing off his burdens to god. In 'Changes', he has the line about going from suicidal to trying to change and talk to god. This is a deep album, but I think a lot of people are missing some of the depth.
