Watching this as a kid really made me love Wes Andersons films. Just something about it is so magical but also grounded.

moments like this in his films reminds me of whimsical but practical illustrations in books i read as a kid, something you could sit there looking at for ages to see all the little bits, like an old rupert the bear annual or wheres waldo/wally book, theres many more examples. this is a more recent one from Batman Universe art by Nick Derrington i.imgur.com/zE4oQ5S.jpg

@@sinatramnzzz928 actually dolphins are highly intelligent. But considering this is a Wes Anderson’s movie where Wes historically tends to show no respect for anything animal or mammal it’s not a surprise That he made fun of the dolphins in his script. Wes is an evil prick that way

This scene always makes me feel warm inside. As soon as that music kicks in it just takes me away to another world. My favorite Wes Anderson film with Rushmore a very close second.

This is the scene that made me want to watch this movie. I was watching “Tout Va Bien” by Godard and my friend made a comment “oh, so THAT’S where Wes Anderson got the idea from”. I was clueless and he told me that in Life Aquatic Anderson had made a visual reference to that scene when he was showing the different parts of the ship. It made me curious to see how Anderson did it. And I ended up really liking the whole movie. Godard also paid homage with his own scene to Carl Dreyer and perhaps other films of which I’m not familiar. It’s all the continuation of inspiration and how it’s interpreted in different eras.

he also named one of his characters after that director I believe Monsieur Jean in The Grand Budapest Hotel (played by Jason Schwartzman) is also seen smoking (something I believe Godard had a habit of)

Gotta love how much effort went into just this 1:30 scene. Although this movie probably had a smaller budget than a fast & furious advertisement campaign.

@@thunder_heads This is a truly beautifully built (mostly wood) vessel. I got to see her while she was in dry dock years ago. I believe this vessel was sold to Disney for the film and then to a private party for use as a motor yacht.
