Something that might be interesting would be B accepting that she can no longer go toe-to-toe against a massive monster while wielding a giant slab of steel, but she still wants to fight. Thus, she decides to take more of a commanding position in the hunt and, after seeing D in the hunt, decides to become a gunner. You could even say that B has switched weapons in the past, so the only thing stopping her from swapping is her own pride. At the same time, D, who is still trying to accept that messing up repeatedly isn’t the end of the world, decides that perhaps she simply can’t aim, dodge, and manage ammunition all during the stress of the hunt. So, at roughly the same time as B’s swap, she picks up the hunting horn. I was also thinking that B, being the experienced huntress that she is, talks to D about the struggles that she has observed D experiencing, and brings those issues to light, convincing D to switch to one of the other weapons. This would leave the group with two hunters that haven’t changed their weapon, and two that, having accepted their own limitations, have changed their roles in the fight. TL; DR: B and D should talk about their issues to each other and swap to HBG and HH, respectively.

I feel like D should be a wyverian, because they have such a long lifespan, so them still being a bad hunter despite having decades or even centuries to practice would be more interesting. Also it would make for an interesting dynamic with B

I love all those characters. Also to try and add something, Hunters should be masters of more than 1 weapon to be ready for all scenarios. I was thinking giving them a secondary weapon, it could be taken and learned as power ups for example. -A Sword and Shield(maybe the weapon from one of their family who didnt make it to the frontier, and learns this as a form of homage) -B Hunting Horn( this as a method to help, maybe B does like music and she can support the group with buffs besides her experience + She can still bash some heads with it) -C Dual blades( i see C as a very agile person and maybe Dual blades could be good for them) -D Charge blade ( It would be very inspiring watching the most unexperienced one master the most complicated weapon) Great video as always!

This TV show idea gives me a lot of ATLA vibes. A semi-episodic format where the characters can sometimes work as a group, sometimes alone. Some episodes can be completely separate from the overall story, while others can serve as crucial plot points.

Don’t forget that C has another distinctive character trait: a heavy French accent.

I feel you might have forgotten about palicoes when talking about characters, heck even palamutes. Palicoes have human level sentience so i feel they have a right to be characters instead of just pets or comic relief.

I got an idea for character D. She is a runaway from the most powerful family in Verudo, the city where A's family is too poor to live. In fact, her family are the real estate tycoons bulldozing his home. While running away from her sheltered and empty life in the palaces of the elite, she was kidnapped by pirates and sold into the arena where your story finds her. Lacking the skill to fight yet driven by perfectionist anxieties, D owes the Guild hunter her life but dare not disclose her true identity. As soon as she's found out, she knows she will be returned home.

With the cast I'd have a different approach on the four main characters, with each one highlighting a different aspect of the "joy" people draw from the games. Character A - would be the joy of the hunt, someone who hunts, purely for the joy of besting beasts - Great Sword. Character B - would be the joy of the world building, they have a pure passion for nature and all its facets, and hunts as an excuse to explore the lands, (and make some money on the side.) - Dual Blades with Sleep. Character C - would be the joy of the build/optimisation, a blacksmith so impatient to see results that they pick up hunting to test and gather material for themselves - Any/All weapons, probably switches around alot and uses alot of technical weapons. Character D - would be joy of the community, a hunter who loves the guild, the people in it and the culture around it - Hunting Horn. I feel like with these four characters they could have some really engaging dialogues, where they could all contribute meaningfully to whatever gets thrown their way. Like Character A and B, could have a fight over the ethics of hunting, with Chatacter D pointing out that hunting is more then just an activity but a culture for them, and maybe Character C pointing out that how hunting can be good for a species, (like how irl buying crocodile products can actually be better for the crocodile species, thanks to regulations). The resolution to this I'll leave out for the sake of brevity. Also Oceaniz I think you're really cool, and I recently got into MH thanks to you.

I'm going to chime in while only being 4 minutes into the video: The sense of progression you describe would REALLY lend itself to a series imo. You could even have a "monster of the week" (and extend that week to two or three episodes) type of formula like ATLA where the end of the season is a climactic finale of what has happened up until then. I think the Dorohedoro anime adaptations art and animation style would work well for monster hunter, while by no means inexpensive it would be vastly less costly then something like Into the Spider Verse or Arcane. It is mostly 3d animated, it is also extremely good sadly for it being a 3d anime and being on Netflix resulted in very few people watching it, the manga is also complete which is great.

It would be fun if C geeks out about wire bugs since it gives "insect glaive"-like qualities to almost all weapons.

I think you've just created a second flash hunter, a good thing ofc. The manga adaptations are, by far the best adaptations of the franchise to date.

I don’t think anyone could have possibly ripped the ideas from my own brain so accurately. Hammer, GS, IG, and HBG have always been my idea for a hunting party. The weapons, I feel, meld the best, each with their own hunting goals. I also love the idea of D, but I feel that instead of being quiet, she could be really energetic and optimistic. Yeah, she may screw up a lot, but she’s always looking at the bright side of things. I’d also really like to see Frontier at least mentioned, maybe they come across a duo of hunters, wielding Tonfas and a Magnet Spike. Something to show off the two widely ignored weapons. Further, I like to think that maybe D is from Moga or someplace similar, and while she’s really bad at normal combat, she excels underwater. I’ve got a ton more ideas, but this really captures the essence of what I want, and all the rest of my stuff comes in the Plot.

16:34 Believe or it, I never felt any attachment to the Hunter themself. I felt more connected to the other characters we interact with such a Utsushi, Fiorayne, and the Seeker. It’s different from avatar characters in Fire Emblem such as Corrin, Byleth, and Shez, who actually feel like their own characters. I only ever saw the Hunter as if that was me inserted into the story, like an avatar is supposed to do.

I also feels like their needs to be some sort of montage of the main character trying all the weapons trying to find their main weapon because we all had to do it.

Oc idea: a rider, whose monstie was killed by a Vaal Hazak. The bond between a rider and her monster meant that when her Nargacuga died, she went off the deep end. She became a hunter for the sole purpose of finding the Vaal Hazak that killed her monstie and killing it for revenge.

I feel like all of the other weapons should be represented with recurring characters. Of course, they can take a backseat to the main characters, but I'd like for every weapon to get a little representation every two or three episodes. For example, D could be shown doing a quest with her brother, a stoic yet gentle Lancer who has a deep respect for nature, and even deeper patience for his sister's mistakes. Or there could be the lone wolf Long Sword user (an idea lifted straight out of the Monster Hunter Flash Hunter manga), who doesn't like working with others and teaches the main characters about the downfalls of trying to do everything alone. Or even a survivalist-styled SnS user who helps to teach the main characters about crafting and using the enviroment to their advantage. Representation of every weapon class can be extremely important.

The manga "Monster Hunter: Flash Hunter" is a REALLY good lore/story adaptation of monster hunter. I wanna see that as an animated series. The art is exceptional too.

Another thing would be that i imagine the old lady mentor character to become some sort of parental figure to the main character. As she ages and as the story goes on she atunes a liking towards the main character, teaching them her skills, bonding with them and even viewing them as one of her own. Then for the big finale I imagine that she is the character that has to die, through a major sacrifice where she uses all she has left to protect the group and most importantly, the main character.

I know I'm like, 8 months late, but honestly hearing you list the 4 protag templates you came up with made me start thinking about like an entire supporting cast. My favorite idea I came up with is a mute (Maybe androgenous) Hunting Horn user who is bubbly and very emotive and expressive, but as mentioned is mute and thus never speaks. They communicate a ton with body language and their hunting horn exclusively.

I feel like B's proper character arc would be to transition from a heavy physically demanding weapon like the greatsword to the light bowgun. Maybe someoen even older than her says that her days at the frontline are over. But you are far to valueable as a hunter to hang up the mantle yet. And to maybe try a less physically demanding weapon. This may clash with D. But B reminded me of Ayame from Rise. A hunter that was hurt badly on a hunt and had to switch to the light bowgun if she wanted to keep hunting.

C being trans could honestly be interesting, pushing the self acceptance idea all the way with a character born into a family wanting them to use a "manly" greatsword but learning to use the "feminine" insect glaive in secret

I think for D should be a criminal, or someone who is truly on the deep end, say an ex-poacher in parol being heavily monitored by B, and through the story they start to see nature not as profit but as a system of life and shows the beauty of it. It also could tie with the guild and show the audience while hunting is a prolific and good looking job there are limits to what you can hunt

i would make the 4th bowgunner person not just bad at hunting per say, but has greater knowledge of mechanical sides of things? she understands more complex combinations, different ammos, how the charge blade/gunlance/switch axe works on a intimate and broken down level. maybe she isnt the smartest nerdiest stereotype but she has this practical knowledge down. possibly she has spent so much time on the technical side thanks to her anxiousness regarding her lack of talent, that she even actively kind of mitigated that very issue from being solved. spending so much time on that has led her to not work on her own strength/dexterity and muscle memory etc

Aghid, a Celtics inspired woman who has mastered SnS, Hammer and GS. She hails from the Moga Isle. After losing her last remaining family to Ceadeus' tremors, she sets off to Tanzia to become a Hunter. Registration was difficult at first, but she eventually claimed her way up the ladder until eventually facing off against a Rathian, who gives her a run for her money. Determined to not lose, she tried using a different weapon to the SnS; the hammer. She figured that if a monster were to be disoriented, it'd be safer and easier to hunt. Then sure enough, another obstacle came across her path, one less tangible but more of an eventuality: sometimes a greater weapon is needed to fell a greater foe; Thus she came to train with the GS. SnS for faster targets, Hammer for slower and more predictable prey, and GS for more formidable opponents.

Interesting story and something I will use for inspiration in my own monster, hunter fan series. Though I do have a question, should each episode be about a pacific monster or character details.

I'd love to see a MH story told about a new rising kingdom, bent on might and progress. They eradicate monsters much more thoroughly in the name of making their lands safe, being industrialist and expansionists. The guild can't do much about it and other nations aren't too concerned since they are doing it to make the lives of their citizens safe and productive. Nature fights back more and more fiercely and well... we get an example of why we find the ruins of once great civilizations Also Guild Knights. There has to be a plotline which leads to human bounty hunting. A hunter vs hunter fight would be amazing to see. Now is it our cast hunting someone? Them being hunted? What did the person do to be wanted? Idk it's just a cool thing that can be incorporated to a story

I would try to connect the characters at least a bit. Like B could be the one that the storyteller in A's story talks about. I also think that 1 episode (assuming we stay with the 1 hour frame). Then 8 episodes for teambuilding and interactions and the last 4 to concentrate on the endgame. Also, open a damn kickstarter so we can fund this series.

Thank you for making this video good sir. I am currently working on a project of my own, it's nothing special. While it is inspired by my love for Monster Hunter, I am struggle to write down any interesting storylines. So my progress have been unbelievably slow. Non existence would be more accurate. I'm afraid I won't even have anything until 2030. I watch your video to get an idea of what to do for my work. I must admit, you light up a spark of inspiration by putting things into perspective. Also, I've been watching you since your Jojo days. You're doing some real good work 👍

It's only a concept, but it's still wildly more appealing to me than anything surronding the actual movie we got. I wouldn't mind seeing follow-ups on the ideas you presented if they were developed any further

For a plot, I would love the idea of a typical monster that is so individually strong, weird or intelligent that it rival the elder dragons themselves despite being not one. For Example a Rathian that saw his partner killed and its eggs destroyed by a group of bad hunters. Because of that it start to develop a visible hate for humanity like fatalis and begins to specifically target human settlements. You might even add the concept of a "mad dragoon" holding hostage the family of A because it saw them as its offspring.

I always felt like for a season 1 finale setpiece, a Jhen or Dhaten repel would be perfect. Especially with how it's depicted in 4's tutorial with multiple sandships coming in to help gives the option to bring back many side-character hunters the core team may meet throughout the run of the season.

Y'know I had a thought. You probably thought of it this way, but make it so the episodic character introductions aren't like character A gets episode 1 & 2 and character B gets episode 3 & 4 etc. But instead like maybe character B is part of the hunting party that saved character A and then have them naturally explain themselves to each other to hammer home the master and student dynamic. I always enjoy seeing these kinds of vids from creators and it was a treat to watch. Keep up the great work Oceaniz.

Just make a nature documentary about monsters and everyone would love it

Quick addition to a possible connection between A and B. The story teller could themselves be a retired hunter or quest handler, telling the stories of they lived or heard themselves from the time they worked with the hunter's guild. In this case, they could be the connection between A (as a current colleague/employee) and B (an old friend/colleague, maybe even student that surpassed their master with time, depending on hold old the story teller would be here in relation to B).

Character B is just a dommy mommy and I accept this reality

I feel like with everything being said, isn't the baccano/DRRR style of show perfect for this? You could start the show off with the "main" cast, but with each episode focusing on a different character from either the main cast or a different type of hunter, this could really easily explore various aspects of the world, plus the theme of diversity as well as bonds with nature will be really clearly put on display here, not to mention it lets us see/explore a large variety of monsters, maybe you have a high-ranked hunter who specializes in hunting leviathans, or you have a master-rank hunter who prefers to fight elders, or maybe a hunter who is trained to fight fanged wyverns, etc. meanwhile as our main cast progresses they slowly meet more and more of these different characters as the main cast polishes up their skills, and the finale will culminate in a elder dragon/black dragon hunt where every single character is brought into the fold in one way or another.

I can really imagine this as a Monster Hunter manga series...it would look so amazing! As a MH newb, I am pretty much the embodiment of character D, but with a heavy bowgun. I started as a newb, and two hundred hours in, it's obvious everyone around me has added at least a couple more hundred hours of experience, but one thing I learned is that even having the best weapons and experienced fighters can't always win matches. I might not be doing the most dps, but I'm making sure the ones that can are at peak performance. Utilizing surrounding nature, traps, and supporting teammates when they are in need are essential. I can see this character growing the most mentally, but not physically...i mean, unless character D decides to toss the light bowgun for a bigger boom boom stick.

Something I could see happening is that the main cast would probably meet in either Kamura village or if this would be paired with the release of a new monster hunter hame it could be in the main town of that game, since, as you said, we shouldn't make a new setting for the show but at the same time chances are marketing the games and as such a show would probably market the newest release of a mainline game and probably share a setting.

The episodic thing was something I thought was legend of the Guild until I watched it. This would allow to follow multiple hunting groups as well, or how they differentiate between regions. Seeing the hunters of Val' Habar meet a hunter from Kamura with their hunting techniques that seem even more daring than what hunters already do. Then they go to the little fishing town from Tri with their one legendary hunter in Legiacrus armor to learn about water combat would be awesome. They also could go to the Frontiers to find tribes of individual hunters from a ransacked land that sounds similar to Mesaporta and to ride that idea home they fight an espinas or hypnocatrice(the Frontier bird you can fight in 2nd gen) in that episode.

You really do have a good point with the series idea. Season could be 3 like the three ranks! LR Season, High Rank Season and then Master Rank Season.

(sorry if my English is wrong, I'm a Taiwanese so I'm not good at it) I always has plan to do a monster hunter based manga series and this video is really really helps!(and other videos you made of course) And this really want me share a way about character introducing in a mh adoption. In my plan now, whether than introduce four mc in a season, i choose a more extreme way, it's more like jojo series, a volume is focused on a mc's growth and journey, and make connections to newer or older mc in stories. And after all four characters got their volume done, a final volume which gather all four mc together to face against a ultimate threat to end the series is my approach to my stories now. I know this is having higher risk when actually doing project but i think giving main characters full screen time is a better way to me since I'm not sure can i handle four mc at once lol, but still just sharing my thoughts. This video is really good at analysing what make a adaption good, also give my project a direct (although i only did a small prequel now) thanks for the amazing content as always !

The other problem with realism is addressing the concept of biology. Things can't swim through sand or control lightning the way the monsters do. And don't even get me started on the caloric requirements of creatures that big that also actively hunt. Animation adds an intrinsic suspension of disbelief. Edit: the only characters I'd tweak are B and D. As for D, I'd say have her be a bookworm. A researcher who has only ever had to hear about these fantastic hunts and, with eyes shining from possibilities, joins the hunts. She would act as a second audience insert. Specifically the fans of the game who probably wouldn't be able to actually hold our own going toe to toe with these monsters. Her experiences would slowly shave away her naiveté while her expertise would assist the team in staying alive in the face of potentially new monsters. For B, instead of their primary concern being their age lets make it that she hasn't known any other life. The fame, the action, there just isn't anything else she is good at, and age is not enough reason to her to just retire. She understands the danger and accepts the inevitable but through this team can gain an appreciation for mentoring the younger hunters. Third I'd like to recommend a spare team or side team because at the end of the day some people won't come home from these hunts. Maybe it could be our main 4 that loses a member or just the side team but someone is going to have to fall unfortunately.

This is an *awesome* concept. I love the cast, especially B. I feel like there should be some focus on an idea that not all monsters need to be hunted or antagonized- most are relatively harmless and don’t act as aggressors. I think that could be a really interesting idea. As for another kind of concept- I could see MH thriving as it borrows ideas from Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Primal”.

Just thinking about Hunters running and attacking monsters in the stylized animation a la Puss in Boots warms my heart. Also making them anthologies I think also works, especially for a smaller budget animation series. Love, Death + Robots works pretty well with that format, and with a common central idea that is "a Monster Hunter story", one can make the separate stories cohesive while also playing with different genres.

Before this I would have preferred having A use a sword and shield or the longsword due to them being the "beginner weapons" but honestly, having them use the hammer simply due to being a blacksmith and so bonking comes naturally is really good

A personal favorite would be the idea that D is actually just really bad because she doesn't "vibe" with her weapon. In keeping with the overall theme of finding yourself that the team has, hers would be that, sure to either pride or a need to impress, she clings to a weapon that her style just doesn't work with. She's constantly trying to jump in the front lines, too eager for her own good. We set up that her major arc is accepting that she's not gonna excel at everything, and to try new things instead of just digging her heels even deeper. Also, I'm a Dual Blades main, so that's my headcanon for her. As a nice show of consequence, I think B should stick until the end of the first season, at which point, while they do defeat the Elder, they only manage to do so narrowly, and get last act as a hunter is to protect one of her comrades, sustaining injuries that put a true end to her career. As a nice bonus, I envision D being the one that needed saving, and in horror and anger that her ineptitude caused this, she picks up the Greatsword and rushes the dragon, in a fit of rage that is surprisingly much more effective than her Bowgun days. It would be a nice cap to both their arcs, as D realizes that he desire to prove herself was hampering her progress in actually improving, while B is heralded as a hero for taking the blow for her younger companion (which, by this point, she barely knows), and find out there's more to life than the path she chose for herself back when. It also neatly showcases the danger of this lifestyle without needing to go the overly graphic route of someone actually dying. My ideal setup from this point is that, while B retires as a hunter, she continues being the mentor figure to the group, probably a blacksmith or something that would naturally have her meeting with the team frequently, and learning that even while retired she doesn't just need to rot away in her home, and she can find more passions outside of her original one. In the meanwhile, we introduce E, an actual ranged hunter (probably Bow, to not have another Bowgunner), who is far more effective as D changes gears and starts experimenting (we could have her wielding different weapons for a few episodes both as some nice fanservice and leading to her finding something that works). E, fittingly for his weapon, is very closed and reserved, being used to doing everything himself and thus needing to learn that you need to trust your companions. He's not necessarily abrasive, but he has a bad case of being too much in his own world to pay attention to anything else (it would also be a nice nod to the fact that some weapons can be an active detriment to your team if you don't coordinate properly. Anyway, just some of my thoughts, nothing particularly spectacular.
