here's a fun detail i enjoy. Asriel (as flowey and as himself) consistently greets the player with "howdy!", a habit that you can later infer he picked up from asgore. meanwhile, the first fallen human (default name Chara) says "Greetings", which is _toriel's_ habit

One really subtle thing about the Genocide route I noticed is that the “!” before encounters is eventually replaced by a smile.

Undyne melted when you killed her because in that fight she somehow generated determination, her body eventually couldn’t take the strain anymore and melted before turning into dust, the melting also happened to the amalgamates due to the determination in their system and monsters fused together and formed them

the fact he was close to the end of the sans fight ON HIS SECOND TRY is really impressive

I absolutely love the True Reset, Toby’s final tug on your heartstrings by making the villain of the game beg you to not erase the happy ending you worked so hard to get everyone Yet his speech is said with a feeling of inevitability, he knows that it’s likely that you’ll go back and ruin everything, that anyone who loves the world enough won’t listen Then you get to the menu, and see the True Reset itself, and it’s amazing The usually lively file select screen that’s normally populated with the characters doing fun things, is now completely empty, barren of all the monsters because they’re all gone, they have no reason to stay in this abandoned mountain, but you’re here, even though you shouldn’t be, like them, you should leave this Undertale and head back to the surface, you aren’t meant to be here, and that atmosphere is emphasised by the droning music in the background, it’s slow, horrid, the type of stuff you’d only hear on the genocide route, and it’s fitting because being here, hovering over that true reset button is a form of starting that genocide, first you kill their happy ending and then you kill them (You can actually hear this droning music in the video if you listen closely on the menu screen 1:33) But yeah, amazing work by Toby to make you feel like crap before you’ve even began the geno route

i love how the literal point of the genocide run is to make you accept that you are the one who did this, but therm just keeps blaming other people

I made my gf play through the pacifist run and then bought the game for myself for the sole purpose of never tainting that happy safe file. Forever untouched and free.

Fun fact: The I Frames in Undertale are called Mercy Frames. Depending on the fight your Mercy Frames differ. It's the amount of time before you can take damage after being damaged by an attack, and things can influence it. For example the more of an enemy type you spare, the more Mercy Frames you get. The monster is showing you Mercy. Sans gives you no Mercy Frames. He does 1 damage, every frame. Quite literally no Mercy. Also, in Undertale you do damage based on your intent to hurt. That's why boss monsters are almost always instant killed. And why Sans takes 999999 damage. Your character is pissed.

If you spare Sans, he doesn't actually spare you. The soul they're referring to at the very end of that route isn't the heart that appears in combats... It's the *player's* soul. In this case, your soul... You being Therm. Sometimes people will react to things they shouldn't know from previous playthroughs, like Toriel guessing your previous answer to the Cinnamon vs Butterscotch question. When you play through this time, you'll likely get a little bit of new dialog or whatever here and there... But probably not enough for a whole new video.

This route literally just destroys your humanity. At the beginning, he was guilty for killing one froggit but by the end you could tell he didn't give a crap anymore

I played the genocide route twice, and failed twice, I could NEVER do it, the first time was at papyrus, and the second time was at sans, I think the sans getting dunked on was a fitting ending, I always imagined it as Frisk gaining control back, and ending it before it could never be fixed.

Nah, Pacifist then Geno is better in my opinion for learning more lore in a more fitting order. Actually, a Normal Playthrough is kinda nice in itself, like killing a bunch of stuff and bosses but also sparing and stuff, idk... Undyne is the best character. She had the determination to keep fighting forever. But the monster soul cannot handle it. She was prepared to fight forever but when she lost using everything she had, her body couldn’t handle anymore. She didn’t ever die to death. She died to her own will to live.

I really enjoyed your peaceful playthrough more. I will probably have nightmares now. Honestly I couldn't watch this video all the way through because I was crying and feeling physically ill, it broke my heart from the moment I saw Toriel die. I had to stop before Papyrus died. I understand this is a game but I was crying because of how much I love these characters and to see the suffering in this was terrible, I can't understand why anyone would want to go down this path, even in a game.

So like. I don't know if your stream told you this already, and you'll probably never see this, but while this isn't technically canon, there's this theory that Chara (canon name for the first human child, in your case, Thumbs or Thimbs), planned their death and made it look like suicide, with Asriel's help, in order to free all monsters. This is heavily implied by the lore, but since it's not outright confirmed hy the game, it's just a theory. The plan was to eat buttercups and die, and then Asriel could take their soul and cross the barrier, and he takes their dead body with him because they said they wanted to see the flowers from their village (You can *cross* the barrier with a human soul and a monster soul). There, he would kill six humans and take their souls to break the barrier. The idea of a Monster with a human soul is legend, but what no one knows is that Chara and Asriel both share split the power of the combined souls, and Chara encourages Asriel to kill them. But Asriel, being a kid who doesn't really want to hurt anybody, flakes out and doesn't fight the humans, who are attacking him because he's holding a body and they think he killed them. He goes back, and collapses in the garden. His dust scatters across the soil, but his body had the sticky seeds of Chara's favorite flower on him, golden flowers, so they're on his dust. They sprout, and when Alphys injects the first golden flower to pop up with determination, that becomes Flowey. Meanwhile, Chara's body is taken by Toriel when she leaves Asgore and buried at the start of the Ruins, and the seeds on her sprout a bed of golden flowers there as well. There, her spirit (not necessarily her soul, some sort of essence of her is still there though) lies dormant until you come. And as they say, your determination wakes them up. It is also a theory that they narrate your journey, be it pacifist or genocide. It's also also a theory that they aren't the villain, that *you* are, and that they become corrupted by your stats and your evil and eventually join in because they think that you must be doing this for some higher purpose. I personally believe these theories wholeheartedly.

Most people don’t talk about how in the genocide run you are the villain in most games you play as the hero but in undertale you either die a hero or live long enough to see you’re self become the villain
