Instead of dragging the corner of the stl to resize and re-centering with the button you can hold shift while dragging the corner of the image to resize and it will keep the image centered. Saves you a bit of time.

yeah, with a little knowledge you can basically print or cut a test page..bravo! sorry but i was hoping for so much more in this video.. I don't have a CNC but even if i did, i wouldn't have much interest in printing ("cutting") a piece of clipart from within the application, all CNC software provide the same examples as a 'test print'.. it would have been 10x more valuable if he used a generic image outside of the clipart to really show how to do something unique . .

@@brendanfitzpatrick7399 Believe me if you just got a machine setup from scratch and did all the wiring etc then you dont give a crap about value or where your test piece came from. You just want to make sure your machine works as intended and with your choices of the many softwares you decided to use to create it. Have you ever printed a test page from a new printer? Well thats all it is. Frankly a 3D eagle in wood beats the hell out of a sheet of paper your gonna throw in the trash anyway.

With all due respect to Ms Fitzpatrick, your video is exactly what I wanted and what I expected. It is a step that needs to be taken in my learning process. This is all new to me. Kudos to you for taking the time (yours and ours) to clearly explain the steps that you were taking. That will enable me to perform a similar on my computer and CNC as I progress in the process of properly using these powerful and innovative new tools. The pace was certainly not too slow. THANKS so very much.

@@PawPawsWorkShop If you go back and look at 21:09, you can see that the side on the project isn't flat either because the wood is slightly bowed or because the particle board below isn't level with the rest of the table. It would appear that the particle runner isn't tied down completely or perhaps there's something under it? I can't tell. Either way, thanks for taking the time to make this video for us!

Hi Paw Paw, A couple quick questions… so you did it all in one pass with the 1/8” bn, so it would have been cutting fairly deep. I heard you say 8-10% step-over, so you stepped over somewhere under .0125? And might I ask your feed rate? I’m very much a novice, and as such would have thought that deep a cut would have broken the bit.

I’m not sure what you are asking. Vectric lines? After selecting the bit and creating the toolpath you just save the toolpath and the file so that you can pull up the file at a letter time. Then save the gcode and carve. Yes, you do need to use the correct post processor. I can’t tell you which one to use due to the vast different types of machines and controllers

It is not a problem. I have done some videos showing this. All that is necessary to design in VCarve, generate the gcode in VCarve and then open Easel and open the gcode file and carve. I have started using UGS (Universal GCode Sender) on my new machine instead of using Easel. You only need the internet to design and save the files. Not to run the actual carve.

Great video, very informative. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. We have been doing a lot of research to buy our first cnc machine, would you recommend the x carve pro(it will be out in a few months) or the cnc4newbies machine?
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop 3 жыл бұрын
First thank you very much. In today's market there are many great machines. I know only what I have seen in the commercials regarding the XCarve Pro. It is a new unproven platform. I have questioned the Inventables team but I must say that I would go with the proven product and chose one of the cnc4newbies products. They are very solid and I love mine.

i would not recommend the xcarve. i just got one and i wish i would have spent another 1000 and got something a little better. the button head screws it came with for assembly are garbage. i had to re tap the holes for the dust collector brackets. this machine is veeery overpriced. i dont expect the xcarve pro is much different besides being more rigid...

How hard would it be to carve the eagle head out of different wood and make it an inlay into the circle? I don't have a CNC yet but I'm very interested in getting one.
@PawPawsWorkShop

That’s doable. Just have to set up a cut line on the outside of the eagle. Thanks for watching

Am I missing something or isn't it a bug in the software that it did not inform you that part of the carving was above the material top dimension? I mean the software knows the material thickness and while it could not detect errors in the physical material it should be able to detect when it creates gcode that is above the top of the work?
@PawPawsWorkShop

It was something visually that I could see. I believe that the carving was at the material surface and therefore would not be shown.

This one is the cnc4newbie, new carve. I also have a XCarve by Inventables. You said you are looking for something small. These are both 1000mm. I am currently looking a two machines that are much smaller. I will be putting them through there paces to see how they will do. I will start to introduce them toward the end of March and into April

Hello. I am a relatively new user and have gotten pretty decent at easel pro (although not even close to your level) and would like to venture out a little. Could you tell me what what kind of file that eagle this would be? .stl .dxf or any of the zillion types of extensions. I am totally confused abut the file extensions. I thought the .stl was a 3d printer file. I don't have and cannot afford v-carve pro. I have easel pro. Is there any place I can go to get something like the eagle for free? Thanks.
@PawPawsWorkShop
@PawPawsWorkShop 3 жыл бұрын
This eagle is one of the free files in the VCarve from Vectric. When you make your purchase, there is a wide range of different files that you can download as well along with many others that you can purchase. You can start with VCarve desktop with is the least expensive option and later add the pro. You only pay the difference. With the desktop you will get the files.

Does lightburn work for cnc and laser or just for laser only ?

Yes, you can use VCarve Pro with the XCarve. After you create you project you can save the gcode and use Easel as the sender to carve the project. Go to Vectrics.com for pricing.

Paw paw I just started with a 3018 cnc machine and I tried laser grbl I can't get laser grbl to work as well as easel I made something in easel and imported it to grbl but when I save it on the off line controler it saves as a different type of file that I guess the machine dont read. I would like to do this eagle head because I use to be in the 101st but I don't think the free of esiel file has it. However looking at the cost of both v carve and easel the price is around the $500 range i already do laser engraving with light burn but there's is a yearly subscription how does these cnc subscription work and how many computers can I put them on because I have 3 for lightburn and would like to do the same for any other program so I can grab any of the laptops I have set up to use the program.

@PawPawsWorkShop 3 жыл бұрын
On the touch plate, you simply need to only add a screw to hold the wire to attached the wire. The second wire hold the slip. The opposite ends of the wires attach directly to the controller. On the Demon controller there is a labeled section to attach the two wires for the tough plate.
