as a concessionist at CW, we actually use coconut oil bibs for our popcorn butter !! and another fun fact, the "butter" that he fills up in this video is the same oil we use to cook the popcorn ! its really gross 😅

I worked at cineplex and that’s butter topping which is mainly canola oil. When you ask for butter on your popcorn at concession, that’s when they give you actual melted butter that’s temped ever other hour before handing you your bag.

Former Cineplex employee here. The liquid that you filled your water bottle with is “popcorn topping,” not butter. Popcorn topping is butter flavoured oil that cineplex puts out for people who don’t want to spend 3$ on movie theatre butter for their popcorn but can’t choke it down dry. If you want movie theatre butter you need to order it from one of the concession employees. Hope this clarifies things.

I was going to inform everyone about this but you did it for me. Thank you. I'm not even a cineplex employee and I know this. That's why I always get butter at the concession. Never make assumptions about food items unless it says exactly what it is. For example table syrup is not real maple syrup.

A quick google search says popcorn butter isn’t a real thing and only popcorn topping exists. Which brand of popcorn butter are you using at the Cineplex? That would clear up my confusion knowing what the brand of popcorn butter (not the topping) is.

According to Extra Crispy, that buttery taste is created by Flavacol, “the yellow powder that gets added during popping to give your popcorn that yellow buttery color,” and other chemicals.
