Barbara...you just crack me up! Yes....I do have way too many things. I swear, when I leave my craft desk, everything just starts multiplying!! Lol. And like you, I try to be organized, but sometimes organization makes it harder. When I'm creating anything, I have a huge, hot mess. But I'm ok with that. But...as soon as I'm finished with a project, everything gets put back in it's place. I guess I need a clean slate to start another mess! 🙂 Love your ephemera pieces! Book pages are always fun to use. Truly enjoy your channel and your creative process! Hugs 💕 Suzy

Empathizing with you so hard. I feel like I'm constantly reworking my storage of smaller ephemera: in dividers in drawers that I can sift through; in clear envelopes; handmade ephemera folders; toss what I'm consistently ignoring. I haven't found a permanent solution. The only peace I can find is realizing that this is just how it is. The solutions seem to change with how I'm prioritizing what I'm working on. As much as I love paper crafting, I have to admit, it's the one persistent annoyance.

By following Tina’s mass making series, I have realized that two of my favorite things to do are clusters and snippet rolls. Since both those projects use smaller ephemera, I am trying to use sectional containers to do SOME organization so that I can just easily pull out different elements . Also, I want the stamp that made that bird with the umbrella. He is brilliant.

Too much is overwhelming! I used to work in direct sales and I found that my representatives that carried almost everything they had to a party had lower sales than those who carried a representative selection. It overwhelmed the customers with too many choices. I have too much right now and, I've finally gotten it all in one place, mostly organized and I have a hard time starting because I either don't know what to use first, or I don't want to mess it all up. I have issues...😆😆😆 I love this video and I loved the tag challenge. So tmrw I am getting a box and starting something!

A few years ago I simplified and removed half of everything I owned. Half my shoes, half my books, half my jewelry etc. Until I came to my crafts . . . I just couldn’t do it. I can completely relate to having too much. You did a good job on these little pieces. Have you ever thought of blindly counting out a certain number of pieces and forcing yourself to use just those? If you picked out 10 larger pieces, 10 medium pieces and 10 tiny scraps you would be able to make 10 little pockets with just those. It would be tough, but it would force you to make decisions. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, absolutely! I have started altering a book for the December challenge, which is stressing me out too, because it is my first one that I will be following and because of all my ephemera I don’t know which way todo, 😂🤣! I agree that having to much of anything is not good and my room is a mess that I organize or try to and get sidetracked during the process and start another project. 🤪 it’s crazy making for me so far. I’m pretty new at collaging and junk journaling so I’m trying be patient with myself and remember that it is “Junk” . Thank you so much for your conversation and inspiration. I truly enjoy spending time with you, Dear Barbara. 😷🤗🥰

Lovely as always! I like to use circle elements by challenging myself to cut one element into parts and use all the pieces in the same collage. Usually, I’ll have one quarter in a corner, then the remaining piece cut into two and used along the edges in a pleasing way. It’s one way to create that triangle unity we all like!

When you have too much you can do a variation of what the lady from “treasure books” does. She reaches in without looking, picks a certain number of pieces, sets a timer and sees how many pieces she can make in that time limit. But don’t forget to include some lace and ribbons.

I've been crafting since 1991 and I have so much stuff too!!! I've been working on my craft stuff for two years. I have learn not to be too hard on yourself❤, you get so overwhelmed with it all. Everyone shows their scrap pile, I'm embarrassed to say that I have a huge tote, yes tote box stuffed with large baggies with scraps. I have moved into a bigger craft room, but all my crafts won't fit, what? So when we start our school's winter break I'm going to purge my craft room and spare bedroom that has my excess craft stuff. We can do it!!! I'm a librarian, so I have a lot (A LOT) of old discarded books. I use the covers to make journals, so I have tons of book pages. These are such a great inspiration!!!! I can totally relate. I understand to live in a big one bedroom with a large walk in closet. Everything was bigger there. I started crafting with my granddaughters. They were little 5&6, then 7&8. I helped my daughter take care of them. I had them Monday through Friday. Come Monday they had KZfaq video Crafting we were going to do. Over a span of 6 years talk about hoarding trash lol. When it was time to move closer to my daughter's I had to through so much stuff out. Only the trash. Not my supplies. I moved into a Active Adult Community Apartments meaning its for older people. The whole apartment is the size of the living room I had in my other apartment. It was a shock moving in here it felt like I moved into a nursing home. It's been 1 whole year. I've gotten used to it. I had already gotten rid of a lot of things in Santa Fe. But here where I live someone is always moving out and moving in and they have to start getting rid of stuff and we have donation tables whatever can be reusable you just put it out on the tables. I have gotten to much. I'm going to have to give some things away. My apartment is to small and it's becoming overwhelming like you said. I totally get it. I buy supplies at thrift store or garage sales, OMG the Dollar Tree. There are so many Dollar Trees and they all have different things. I'm in Rio Rancho which is right next to Albuquerque and that's a really big city. It's like going to the candy store. Lol.I order on Ebay and Amazon. But now it's just me. My granddaughters are teenagers and they don't do art crafts anymore. So Junk Journal is my new thing.

The younger one did some Christmas tree with plastic spoons last year. Like a deco for the table. This year I sent my daughter some links to Halloween decorations and she made one of those for Halloween last month. Your welcome I hope you get to feeling better about it. Maybe you should do a drawing and give away a box of goodies away. Every so often until you don't have so much.

I totally enjoyed watching you decorate the ephemera! I know how you feel about having too much stuff. I also have a lot of crafting supplies. What bothers me the most is when I can’t remember where I put something I want to use now! This happens often. It happened today! Lol Hugs💕

I know exactly what you mean! I just recently took out all my ephemera from my ephemera book and put them in a binder with the sectioned card holder sheets. Sometimes I get tired of seeing things that I’ve held on to for so long so I will go through and pull out those things and add them to a master board or something.

Love the video. You had me hooked when you pulled out the black gears - I have the TH gears die and am going to get it out today, cut some and decorate some book page pockets. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm sorry a certain person gave you such a negative comment - just keep being you. BTW, I totally understand feeling overwhelmed and yes, it's so, so hard to toss anything that might possibly be used in a junk journal.

Barbara, I, too, feel exactly like that. The more I have, the more confused I become. I also put more pressure on myself to use the ephemera. Occasionally when I become too overwhelmed I will simply go through some ephemera envelopes and throw away pieces I’m not likely to use. It is hard initially but I haven’t missed one item! I feel the exact same way you do Barbara! Having too much, I don’t know where to begin. Sometimes I feel like throwing my little scraps away 🤣🤣🤣 Yea right! But seriously a couple of times I have done a project to use up my scraps, and spent all day working on tags and clusters and at the end of the all I have done is create more scraps , so 🤷🏻‍♀️ I do love being creative though. So I think I just need a bigger craft room so it looks like I don’t have so much. 🎨🗝🍄🌼🦋🪡🧵 sometimes the things you say out loud is the same thing I am saying to myself, so I can relate to you! And I love the idea of keeping things in a triangle, I had never heard that before and it is helpful.

Yes my stuff has migrated throughout my house. I can’t get in my craft room right now. I am also storing Christmas gifts in there so I’ve taken over the dining table. Again! Everyday, before I cook dinner, I clear off one half of the table so there is an area where my husband and I can eat. He is okay with it. If you check under the table, the chairs are stacked with books and paper trimmers and file folders full of paper and containers of brads etc. I’m working on a journal for a gift right now and once that is complete, I will clean up the craft room and put everything away. Then I can start the baking and prep stuff for Christmas. I’m a very messy crafter lol.

I don't have a ton of ephemera pieces but the ones I have i store in a book like you have by categories. (stamps, words, tickets etc) I find it easier to store them in very few places. The more storage tins or binders that I have the more overwhelmed I get. I think the key is to not have too much ephemera. Another idea is to give away what you don't want or to swap it for ephemera you do want. One other tip, when you print out a page of ephemera, don't fussy cut it all at once. I find having it together on one page is less bits to store.

Hello Barbara, this was very useful and entertaining. I was sitting here talking to the video as if you could hear me. I kept saying use the one that say Life with the butterflies. I let out a deep breath when you finally use it. I was laughing at myself. The other time I was saying use the purple dragonfly and you picked it to up to use with the flower cutout and then changed your mind. I wonder if anyone else talk to the videos. I know, silly but fun.

As far as selling the journals, I’ve seen other shops just sell them within their own country where shipping isn’t too bad. Several UK shops I follow are only mailing physical pieces within the UK, for example. Maybe that’s an option for you? But I totally get why you are waiting.

Barbara, these are great and I think you made your point beautifully. I don't have all that much JJing under my belt but in a tiny way I can agree that more is not always best - except for, like, chocolate - as it gets too overwhelming - the stuff, not the chocolate... chocolate's easy. I've also heard many of my other instructors say that fewer items to work with and/or limited time (like the 3 in 30s) make things easier in an odd way. Did you see where Emily, Marta's daughter, picked Marta's supplies for a project? ...maybe nine-ish months ago? Marta fumbled for a second but found her groove as we all knew she would and created an absolute Marta Masterpiece. This vid was really inspiring m'dear, thank you. 🤗 With love from the Southern California desert, MK. ❤️☀️🌬️🌵

Oh my gosh! As you were taking your ephemera out of your folder, I kept on thinking of the hours it would take to put it all back again!!!🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️😂😂😂😂It took me ages!!! And yes all the pieces make me crazy but i cant throw them away, but the ‚gathering‘ of the small pieces is a problem at the moment...I struggle to use them as they are in my ephemera folder and I never go to them as they’re so full....🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi B., I was wondering, are going to put all the ephemera you took out of the album back in? As I saw you throwing them into the box I remembered a discussion I had with a psychologist friend of mine who said that hoarding is a sign of perfectionism. Perfectionists need to be in control of things and hoarding makes you feel in control of your crafting. When I asked her for a way to reduce my supplies without feeling guilty she said: give yourself a time period that you will choose, i.e. 5 years. If you haven't used something for that period it means that either you don't need it or you don't like it enough to use it and therefore it can go. Thank you for so many ideas.
