Demo of 26 patches for Empress Effects ZOIA. Also an attempt to show that you can get amazing sounds out of Empress Effects ZOIA even if you have no idea how to use it.
ZOIA community creates really good patches and share them for free on Patchstorage, and anyone with a ZOIA can use these patches. If ZOIA looks interesting but you don't want to learn a new workflow and a bunch of new terminology, you can just download patches and use them like any plug&play pedal. Each patch is like a new pedal!

thank you DNoise...not that my wallet needed any more convincing about the brilliant Zoia, but your way useful taste here of what's on patchstorage--for those of us intimidated by Zoia's interface/lack of editor soft.--is the one that's finally dropped the Z into my cart. cheers and right on for it.

I just got this, and had to scrap the brainwaves to make room. That pedal was so fun with the tone prints and mash switch but such a horrible sounding pedal

Hey does it just hook up to laptop/pc via USB? I was about to buy a Pog2, because of the 1 down + 2 up, but to be honest, I'm 100% sure this will do and a tonne more lol. I really like your short/raw videos aswell, i like watching the short straight play throughs. Thanks.

Thanks! It has an SD card slot which is used for updates or preset import/export. ZOIA has a pitch shifter module (and the granular module can be used as a pitch shifter as well) but it doesn’t sound like POG.

Am I correct in thinking that some of these patches are clocking over 100% of CPU? If so what happens when that limit is hit? Is there some sort of clipping or degradation of sound quality that happens? Thanks in advance. Should be picking up a Zoia tomorrow.

riloh58 some patches use around 100% and may go higher just a bit but it doesn’t affect the quality. Trying to add more at that point might freeze the pedal or cut the sound but it wouldn’t clip or degrade.

Is it possible to also use it as a classic multieffect, e.g. set up comp-overdrive-mod-delay and on/off them separately on the fly (via it's own or external foot switches)?

Tappist the ZOIA has almost all effects you can find on the HX Effects but the workflow is way too different. HX Effects is certainly the more convenient and easy to set up/use one. ZOIA is the more experimental and deep one.

@@DoNoise Yeah that's my first impression without laying hands on one of these yet. With some of the patches in this video, however, it seems like it could easily replace individual pedals that I pair along with an HX Effects. Also, the Zoia lacks the effects loops of the HX Effects.

Tappist if you use the ZOA in mono, you can use the other set of in/outs as an fx loop

ZOIA Euroburo is still new and they share the firmware so I don’t think this will be obsolete soon.

Would it be overkill to run this in the effects loop of an hx stomp? Or do you think the the strengths are different enough it would be justified?

I don’t think it’s overkill at all. They’re very different. I use mine in the HX Stomp fx loop most of the time.

what's the fast way to change between presets? is this machine better for a desktop uses or shoegazin'? i'm thinking of making some squats when we play it... is good for quarantine...? joke*

If you’re thinking of quickly changing presets during a song, a MIDI controller would be the best. Other than that, Scroll and Select switches do the job for me. Once you have everything set up, you don’t have to have it on a desk so shoegazin’ is certainly fine!

No they will only work with ZOIA.

Working on another video right now, and have more videos coming after that. It's almost like an infinite source of new sounds, and I haven't even learned what half of the modules do exactly. I don't think you'll ever regret clicking that button.
