Another super interesting vlog Sara! Those chart and manual apps (and the weather one) look handy for keeping up-to-date, better than getting reams of printed paper updates and inserts. don't worry! i finished my degree at 22 and still had plenty of time to pick a career (i've actually had three so far!). you're on no one's timeline but your own - don't compare yourself to others because you are on your own path. :)

Could you make a video about the health checks for pilots or health limitations which could prevent a person from becoming a pilot?

The medical examination includes following tests: blood pressure, heart, lung function (spirometry test), limbs and reflexes, blood test, urine test (lab test values must be normal), hearing test, vision test, color vision test. The following conditions are disqualifying factors: Angina pectoris Bipolar disease Cardiac valve replacement Coronary heart disease that has been treated or, if untreated, that has been symptomatic or clinically significant Diabetes mellitus requiring hypoglycemic medications Disturbance of consciousness without satisfactory explanation of cause Epilepsy Heart replacement Myocardial infarction Permanent cardiac pacemaker Personality disorder that is severe enough to have repeatedly manifested itself by overt acts Psychosis Substance abuse Substance dependence Transient loss of control of nervous system function(s) without satisfactory explanation of cause.

I would think procrastination to bid is a good thing? Mostly because the closer you are to that day, the more information you have about what you want to do throughout the month. Unless the late bids reduce your chance of getting the flight?

You bid on what you want yes but doesn’t mean you get it. The people who have been working there the longest get 1st pick. The more junior you are (like Sara) means you usually don’t get your full dream schedule. It takes YEARS of working at the same airline to get scheduled exactly what you bid on. If you switch airlines, or get promoted to Captain at the same airline, you start at the bottom again

What I meant from my comment was that I was completely unaware of this that something like this sort exists. Your company schedule system is different from my company. So It’s very interesting know thtat! In our case, We can only request 2days in a month regardless of seniority. So It’s very inconvenient😂

Tell us what plane do you fly? Let us know how you got to your position? My Granddaughter will be a junior in high school next yr what classes do you recommend as she goes on this pilot adventure. For us that travels let us know what hotel they pit you up in and what the room looks like as we may stay their on our travels. Thank You

I don't think american has any E-jets that operate routes to hawai'i which is the plane she flys rn also american doesn't have a base in hawai'i so she would have to switch the airline she works with to even have a chance of being based out of HNL

Basically, if you start from zero the training for the private pilot license and for the commercial pilot license can be completed within 12 months, but the duration also depends on the flight school and their training program. When someone starts training at a young age, it's possible to make the first solo flight already at the age of 16, and obtain a private pilot licence when you are 17. At the age of 18 it is possible to get a commercial pilot license. However, after receiving the commercial pilot license it takes some time to achieve the required flight hours for the ATP certificate (Airline Transport Pilot License) which is required in order to work for an airline.
