This is awesome. I’m planning on having my party discover a mad mage who turned the original deck of many things into magic items (Like what they have in the book) Then they’ll find the Deck of Many More Things, so they’ll know they can only find cards that they don’t know/are new to them.

they forgot the most important card: "44 Pick Up" A large loud mechanical monster with 2 glowing eyes appears in front of you travelling at a high rate of speed and bashes into you and runs over what is left of your body. The cards fall on the ground and any cards that fall face up are activated.

honestly itd be an amazing story beat to have a player character go "i will draw 66 cards from the deck" then wait 59 minutes and 54 seconds before grappling a campaign final boss

@@gamemasters wouldn't they all be drawn at the same time? every effect would be simultaneous or is it sequential in RAW?

@@HmmBearGrr they are drawn one at a time, once a card is drawn it's effect happens immediately. There are a couple of cards that allow for simultaneous draws in which those effects do happen at the same time, HOWEVER... should you cite, "I'm gonna draw 66 cards" and you only draw one and after an 59 min and 59 seconds pass and you have not drawn a 2nd card, add one final second to it, then _all_ cards draw automatically and _all_ effects happen at the exact same time.

Okay, i kinda wanna rig the deck and just let my party pull the dragon card. Then the wyrmling they get is the purple dragon from dungeon dad’s video.

@@gamemasters Invincible: You are Immune to all Damage for 1 hour Frail: You are at stage 5 Exhaustion Luck: Choose any Card and gain it's effects, except for Moon (wishes) Chaos: Draw 10 cards, except for Chaos. Rebirth: Your Race changes to whatever the DM chooses.

Y'know, depending on the dragon, the dragon card could lead to an interesting story. Heck, I believe there's a story where a end character raised a black dragon wyrmling to be a force for good.

For me it seems like Campfire and Maze aren't strong enough for an item like the Deck of Many Things. I would change Campfire so that you can choose to instantly gain the benefits of a long rest at some point in the future, rather than it happening right away, and have Maze always bring you to five levels of exhaustion instantly.

I would say the nasty effects are a lot less nasty than the nasty ones used to be while the good oens are about as powerful as the avarage good card used to be. Though the old cards differed a lot more in power while the new ones are stronger then the weak old ones but less powerful than the really powerful ones like the moon or the fates.

do they come across as balanced or do you feel that they still are party killing?

@@gamemasters Few of the orignal are party killers. Pretty much only the skull if your party are follish enough to engage and you're low level (the avatar of death is a pushover for a tier 2 or more PC). The Donjon and void can get rid of indiviual characters but really the permanent debuff ones like euryale and the idiot (now the puzzle) are worse. Of the new ones the ring and staff are the potentially worst ones if the DM is a sadist and sticks them with a cursed item. The statue, prisoner, and fey are similar to the void and donjon. But lesser, the statue can be cured by greater restoration while the dinjon and void can't be fixed even by wish. Prisoner can be fixed with disintegrate or a 30 thievestools check (easy if you have an artificer) and the fey allows the vanished player to keep acting independently which means they might return on their own. The monstosity can be party wiping if the party is low level. The most disruptive cards remain the fates and the moon. though the door in the hands of a foolish player can be almost as bad.

Bridge: You gain the ability to cast the Time Stop spell 1d3 times. Use your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma as the spellcasting ability (your choice).

Hmm. I'm not too sure what you mean? This one went over what the cards do, for example, Well, you gain 3 cantrips from any spell list, that's what it does. Are you wanting some in depth as to what you could do with a specific cards if drawn?

Well for example the Expert, Giant, Mage, Mine, Priest, Tavern, Tree, and Warrior cards give a boost to something but you only describe them as "they increase just a bit." Can that be 1, 2 or 3? @@gamemasters

Is the 'many more' things part of the forthcoming WOTC product or is it something else?

@@Avernaith unfortunately it has been delayed until at least january because the makers of magic the gathering could not cut cards to all be the same size

@HmmBearGrr keep in mind.. WotC isn't the company that physically prints or cuts the cards. They use manufacturers from various locations around the globe. It's likely that a batch from one specific location didn't get cut right.

Was very disappointed that I bought the book of many things set and it didn’t include the actual Deck of many things. Just a bunch of new crap lol

I don't understand what you mean? Was your copy missing the actual physical copy of the deck itself? It should have included the original deck plus all the new cards.
