Here's a really stable rabbit hutch made out of 2x4's and wire shelving.

I recently watched JNull0's rabbit cage video. I like the wire shelf option. YES Anchor it to the wall. Good work.

I wish this material and idea was around when we had rabbits, the pet kind.

HAH RW.... JNOLL opened the school for knuckleheads. He is a legend of doing it his way and sharing. JNoll has tried enough different things that a lot of it works for him. He is a legend and that is big stuff from an aussie. ...Anyway, you'd have to ruin/fail/destroy a whole lot more to even get entry into JNoll's University.... Bless you both... Cheers

I have been raising rabbits and used jnullo cage Idea too. After watching your video I only see one issue with your build. That is there is Pressure treated lumber on the inside of the cage. Rabbits will gnaw on wood you are going to run the risk of poisoning them if they chew on that wood. Just something to think about. other than that they look and function great.

I'm doing mine very similar to jnull's. I did do a video on the material. When I saw the panels I found first thing I thought of was JNull's pins. I'm debating using metal studs for the support, they are galvanized and won't suck up urine, I never hear a response from John, but curious how you think that might work// I think yours looks really good. My panels are 1/2 inch by 3, I'm a lttle concerned about something being able to pull on rabbits feet through it. I have one in a small cage built from it for now and I can see his feet partially protruding through it. and have thought about still using the 1/2x1 on bottom only, I'd still be saving a lot. I paid less than 3 dollars apiece for mine and I just love them.

+Ozark Mountain Girl One thing I see where I may have some issues in the future is the urine and water that drips from the drinking water bottles has started to stain and a gunk is starting to form on the back side 2x4's. I think if you use metal studs that would be perfect. If you do use wood you may have to be prepared to have to replace them in the future because of corrosion and rot. The 1/2 spaces doesn't seem to bother the rabbits. I'll find them just sitting on the shelving. I have a floor tile in there as well to give them a break but it's not used like I thought it would be. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for commenting.

as far as the cost of this construction, witch I love btw very creative ! is it more economical than buying used cages? how much was the total construct? I have been looking for a cheaper way to get the amount of rabbit cages I would need

+Jessica G Hi Jessica. I think in all it cost around $250-275. I was able to use some old pallets for the hidey holes so that saved on cost. I did consider using some heavy duty shelving I saw at Lowes for $90 and then put wire around the whole thing to be cheaper but obviously in the end, I went with this. hope that helps and hope all is well

I purchased the same shelves to make my rabbit cages, in less than a month the does have chewed the plastic coating off of the wire. How have your cages held up over the last year and a half?

They have done the same to mine. The silver lining is that the pooh and pee still easily fall through.

That is a great cage! But will be letting the rabbits free-range a bit or will they always be in that cage?? I used to have rabbits as a little girl so to me they are more pets than food....but that's just me! I know they make a great food source I just want them to have a good life before they go into the pot. :)

+Brooklyngirl1969 My kids aren't too hip on eating fluffy either. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there. I'm finding there's a bunch of people that used to keep rabbits. I'm planning on them being in the cage unless I build a small corral for them in the back yard for the kids to play with but then that makes it harder for them to go into the pot. That sunflower looked good. Hope all is well and keep it up.

Thomas Edison was considered a dork. When asked about his journey to invent the light bulb he responded, "I found 2,000 ways not to do it." I say those who don't give up hold the most knowledge.
