Kinda: I was taught by one of my chefs that Chinese cuisine has the 3 textures in addition to western 5 (6?) flavors. Considering these is an crucial part of developing dishes. Crispy (epitomized by pork skin), smooth (custard and flan), and granular (like rice, but it can be dry or wet). Balancing these enhances the tactile pleasure of food. This would have crispy/crunchy of the sugar and the granular wet from the tangerine

Title: The Allure of Oranges: A Citrus Wonder Introduction: Oranges, with their vibrant color, refreshing taste, and numerous health benefits, have captivated human fascination for centuries. This citrus fruit, belonging to the Rutaceae family, not only adds a burst of flavor to our meals and drinks but also offers a wide range of nutritional value. In this essay, we will explore the fascinating world of oranges, their origins, nutritional benefits, cultural significance, and their impact on our well-being. Origins and Varieties: Oranges are believed to have originated in Southeast Asia, specifically the region encompassing modern-day China, Myanmar, and northeastern India. Over time, they spread to various parts of the world through trade and exploration. Today, oranges are cultivated in many countries with diverse climates, such as Spain, the United States, Brazil, and Morocco. There are several popular varieties of oranges, each with its unique characteristics. Navel oranges, known for their distinctive "navel" at the blossom end, are sweet and seedless, making them a favorite for eating. Valencia oranges, on the other hand, are commonly used for juicing due to their balanced flavor and high juice content. Blood oranges, with their crimson flesh and tangy flavor, are prized for their striking appearance and are often used in salads and desserts. Nutritional Value and Health Benefits: Oranges are renowned for their impressive nutritional profile. Rich in vitamin C, oranges provide a significant boost to our immune system, aiding in the prevention of colds and other illnesses. Additionally, they contain dietary fiber, potassium, and folate, which contribute to heart health, digestion, and cell function, respectively. Consuming oranges regularly can also help reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular ailments and certain types of cancer. The fruit's abundant antioxidants, such as flavonoids and vitamin C, combat harmful free radicals in the body, protecting cells from damage and promoting overall well-being. Cultural Significance and Symbolism: Oranges have played an essential role in various cultures throughout history. In Chinese tradition, oranges represent good luck, prosperity, and abundance. They are often exchanged as gifts during the Lunar New Year celebrations, symbolizing wishes for a fruitful year ahead. Oranges have also become an integral part of Christmas celebrations in many countries, where they are placed in stockings or used as decorative ornaments. Moreover, oranges hold symbolic significance in literature and art. Writers and poets have used their vibrant color and refreshing scent as metaphors for vitality, energy, and optimism. Artists have immortalized oranges in their paintings, capturing their beauty and evoking a sense of joy and abundance. Conclusion: Oranges, with their delightful taste, nutritional value, and cultural significance, continue to enchant and nourish us. Whether enjoyed as a refreshing snack, a zesty addition to recipes, or in the form of juice, oranges provide a multitude of benefits to our health and well-being. Let us embrace this citrus wonder, appreciating its vibrant color, invigorating aroma, and the zest it adds to our lives.

I used Cuties Mandarin Oranges to make these. It was so good it was worth getting a sugar burn on my fingers. Once my sugar caramelized I poured in a little water to make a caramel sauce to go with some Flan.
