It sounds like we'll have to do what Saavedro wants if we're to get the Releeshahn book back.

Brad Dourif's best role IMO. A perfect blend of psychopath with anguish and anger. Too bad they couldn't carry this in the next games which have acting so terrible they're almost not worth playing.

I had never realized I was looking at Saavedro in the LotR movies... But I have to say, Saavedro's had two awesome roles; In Myst and in LotR!

Saavedro doesn't just trap Atrus because of one thing, he wants something from him, so he has to ensure that Atrus gets to him to get it from him.

And Wormtongue in lord of the rings, I believe. He played Saavedro because he was a myst fan, that's what he said.

Best reason, of course. But the "cracked"ness of the character is right in his wheelhouse. :D

Brad Dourif also played Piter De Vries in Dune. My mum always said they only let him out to play Psychopaths

He would've recorded it in advance. He already knew his plan of stealing Releeshahn and trapping Atrus, so the message was already in place.

What I really like about Myst III is that it unites many of the artistic discrepancies between Myst and Riven. You can hear in this room especially how the music is based on that of Myst, while the linking book sound is half way between the two (let's be honest, the sounds in Myst and Riven are ridiculously different).

Nice technical touch with the red blue and green, the 3 primaries that make up an image.

I always remember Brad Dourif best from "Beyond the Sea," the episode of The Xfiles he was on. He played a crazy, possibly psychic or possibly not, serial killer in that one. Yep. Also - always happy to see a new part to the LP, I've been so excited that you had time to do it. :)

It's so cool to revisit this journal now that I know that the war on Tehranee, Master Támon, Esel, etc., weren't just made up, but were in the book! It's interesting how little relevance the journal seems to have at this point in the game, but it is interesting how Atrus explains his thought process of going through these "mantra"s of these Ages as they relate to the struggles of the D'ni. Very well thought-out.

It's Brad Dourif in all his psycho-ness. Gotta love the guy. Also, his daughter, Fiona is like a chip off the old block. She plays a lovable psycho character in Dirk Gently. And Rat Woman in The Stand.

I also remember Brad Dourif as the rat exterminator from Stephen King's Graveyard Shift. Cool character that suffered a surprisingly lame death halfway through the film, lol! XD

After the Myst livestream where You mentioned SFDebris I watched most of his reviews. In his review of the Babylon 5 episode "Passing through Gethsemane", he says that the main character of the episode is played by Brad Dourif "whom You might remember from Your nightmares". That was a very apt description and it cracked me up.

To others who may watch this play-through: How would you go about writing an age? Personally, I would (like Atrus appears to) research everything very carefully. I would then write the text of the descriptive book with normal ink, in a plain book, probably edit it until I was satisfied with the result, and only then would I copy it into a Kortee'nea using that special ink. (Why does the quality of the ink and paper matter when making descriptive and linking books? Well, for one thing, the paper would need to be acid-free so that it wouldn't deteriorate within a few decades, and the ink would need to be lasting enough that it wouldn't fade if the book happened to be left open in the sunlight. I've seen the effect prolonged exposure to the sun can have on the ink regularly used in pens, in the form of book labels in the library where I work, and I've had to re-label a lot of the non-fiction books because the labels had faded so much that they were unreadable.)

Bah! My amusement shall not be barred by simple logic! In any case, Saavedro does say that he has Releeshahn like he actually does. And that comes after that break of static like he recorded it separately from the first part of the message, so I do think the second part was recorded while he was walking around the room while you were stuck outside. It's probably also likely that animation times add up to more than the second half of the message's length, though. Oh well. =P

By the way, he voices Chucky, the child doll serial killer in the Child's Play series, so he has played horrible, mean characters before. Personally given me nightmares but also attracted me at the same time. lol

I'm curious… Is it possible to speed run through the beginning of this game fast enough to reach this room in less time than it takes Saavedro to record his message? I think that would be pretty funny.

I always thought it was funny how he seemed to be channeling Jack Nicholson in this game. Maybe being around him so much while working on Cuckoo's Nest was so traumatic that it permanently affected him. :p

Remember, Brad Dourif actually played the stuttering young man, Billy Bibbitt, in Cuckoo's nest. It seems surprising that it wasn't mentioned.
