amazing how a simple camera angle can make a game feel and looks so different, such a shame because I bet this would have been HUGE in japan if this wasn't in it.

This hurts my eyes a lot I had no problem with the NTSC version in fact it is perfect I can see and it works sooooo good. That's why I ask if you will do a part 2.

nah, the japanese name is still spyro(well, it's transcribed in the japanese syllabary as "Supairo" technically) it's just that the hiragana is weirdly stylized in a way that it looks like it says "ripto"

Akiko Yajima does the Japanese voice of Spyro. From what I heard, she's known for being the voice of Shin from Shin-Chan and Dorothy from Big-O.

I think Spyro sounds endearing in the Japanese edition; those additional sounds are quite cute. Bit of a shame with the camera, though.

Huh. Based on his personality in the NA version of the game I would have pegged Spyro as the kind of kid that would say "ore" instead of "boku".

Personally, I don't like the fact that the camera angle constantly changes, depending on the direction you're going for. That can be very unpredictable, as it really spoils your concentration to the game and you can easily go or assess wrong, especially if you're in levels like Tree Tops or Lofty Castle where a little mistake can cost you a life.

Ahhhhh shiiiittt, it is here, whoot! Been waiting for this. And yes, if there was a Spyro course, I would pass that without a doubt, I know everything about this purple lizard. XD And one thing about the flags, yes, they are such a nice addition, I actually have remade the flags to put up in my room. XD So excited to see the rest of these, hopefully we won't have to wait for long for the next episode!

10:41 "See you later!", basically =p 18:23 No, actually! In most Japanese games, Circle is the select button while X is the back button. I believe it has something to do with the fact that rather then using checks and Xs for "right" and "Wrong", they use Xs and circles, circles being the "correct" sign. Spyro is the first Japanese game I've run into that lets you use both X and Circle as confirmation buttons. Dunno if anyone's ever told you this, but if you hold triangle while moving, it stabilizes the camera and makes it move like the American version, makes the game 73821738921738219378219% more bearable Also, using the Triangle feature, while Spyro IS slower, I think the /amount/ he's slowed down is an illusion that's exaggerated by the pulled back camera, just like how his jump looks higher. Though that's just my observations, don't take that as fact =p

I'm pretty sure the flags were in the original game. Unless you were just pointing them out. xD Also, one of the things I found endearing about Spyro was the lack of hand-holding. The dragons giving you some tips made sense. But just slapping signs everywhere... xD

6:39 Funny story- when I was a kid I could play Spyro for ages, without motion sickness. As an adult, I get motion sickness playing Spyro. Last time I tried playing Spyro I just made sure to have a plastic bag with me which I thankfully didn't need after all (wasn't going to let motion sickness get in the way of me playing Spyro!), though I found that the more I played, the more used to it I got. The camera angle in the Japanese version is definitely worse though.

I know a little bit of Japanese (About 10-15 words) so when I hear certain words I can kind of put together what they are saying. Funny I'm saying that because I'm Home-Schooled and my Grandma made my own Japanese language course that I'm taking and so far I'm LOVING it

+Ryza Delta No that's the European title. The Japanese title is called "Spyro x Sparx: Tondemo Tours. The "x" is read like the word "cross".

Hey CrystalFissure, if this camera angle is bothering you, try fiddling around in the options. In the 2nd game in JP format, I found a way to make the camera exactly like the US version. Idk if it's in this one, but if it is, definitely play around with all the menus. Looking forward to this LP. Cheers!

+Ragnamune As I said to DingoPenta: "you actually can change the settings I believe, but it's part of this thing called "Director's Cut" where you have to beat the game 100% to unlock it." Even if I could though I'd keep it as this, because it's meant to be a different LP to the original PAL/NTSC versions.

I didn't know about this camera angle thing, that's cool and it doesn't surprise me about the motion sickness because my mum couldn't play it or watch me play it because of she would feel sick, I think it's the camera work that is too fast, but it does feel weird to change the whole camera because as he mentioned they already changed the speed of the walk and charge and with the original camera angle that looks like it would fix it, but never mind.

The portal has a stage number in the Japanese version; for instance, the Stone Hill is stage 1-1.

I also have the original Japanese version of Spyro in mint condition, but when I put it into my modified PS1 it always gives me a bootup and a red error circle with Japanese text underneath. Do you know what it is saying? All my other games works fine even my Japanese Crash Bandicoot games, they play like a charm. Only Spyro 1 doesn't.

i think how the second spyro was made is because in japanese the title is named ripto and i think thats how ripto was made as the main villain in spyro 2 xD im also looking forward to this let's play!

+DingoPenta No, that's not it. The way Spyro is written in Japanese looked like it said Ripto in English so Insomniac decided to base his name off of that.

The camera angle is kinda similar to some RPG games. I really like the camera angles in those games so I don't mind the camera.

Funny enough, I've been putting off watching those because of the camera angle. My eyes hurt now, I do have a question though. Why is there no settings or menu in this version? (Or why does it look like that?)

Why is Sparx always green in this version? It makes Spyro look like he is always on low health. Let alone Sparx now blends into any green color.

It is because of the dragon fly eggs. They allow extra hit points and the ability to change Sparx's colour.

Nitro_Crate Thats sounds so cool. Japan gets all the cool gimmicks. As a kid I would have loved to find Dragonfly eggs, being able to change Sparx’s color is cool. I wonder how Japan will treat Spyro when his remaster comes out.

I noticed you are a rookie to Japanese games. The X and O buttons are reversed with their commands, which means X is "no" and O "yes"; This also translates to X as "cancel" and O as "ok" in menus. I could help you with your journey to this version as a translator of some sort - Japanese is my major after all :'D Just a thought~

To Be Honest the Loading Screen for the Portal Worlds like you know Stone Hill World I prefer the English version instead of the Japanese version because I like when Spyro Just landing there when the Loading Screen is done that's kinda cool in my own Opinion, and the Voice actors are not that bad same goes for the English Voice Actors I find it Equally like Anime(the Japanese cartoon shows) again that's my Opinion :)

In Japanese games circle is confirm and X is sometimes cancel. Try getting tips in Estonia, because Estonians rarely tip.

This is my first time seeing Japanese Spyro in action. Wow. This looks awful! Spyro is easily one of my favourite PlayStation 1 games, but I would have absolutely hated it if this was what we got.

I like this Spyro better than the English version vocal wise, Spyro sounds cute and doesn't have the Insomniac curse with the main character in the first game always sounds petulant and impatient
