11 ай бұрынTokyo Highway is the board game of privatized highway systems - and if that doesn't sound fun, you need to WAKE UP. In Tokyo Highway, players take turns placing popsicle stick highways and try to get all their cars on the road. But they only have so many pieces, and once they run out, it's game over. This week on Polygon's tabletop show Overboard, Clayton Ashley, Tara Long, XTina GG and Simone de Rochefort take to the streets, building roads with shaky hands.

Was thinking the same but it makes it more difficult to swap pieces. Someone will have a solution like a colour wheel or a dry erase marker

@@LS-jj4sythose are also traded but there could just be like 15 blue but you only use 10 so instead of trading you take one of the extra and the other player just loses one, could make it harder though especially with varying numbers of players

the game looks complicated to an onlooker, but that's because you're not *thinking it* like the players are. spatial awareness and memory are engaged for them and so it's less confusing, and i think the stuff they can't remember is meant to make the challenge of rebuilding their mistakes funnier

It would probably work better digitally, where pieces could just change colors. However, that also would probably remove the whole 'accidentally knocking over pieces' thing, meaning they wouldnt change color in the first place...

I love how materially simple it is? it's just like some wooden pegs and ice cream sticks yet it does so much it really feels like a game someone who's never heard of it before could just accidentally invent again for their own amusement and I really appreciate that

I remember being at Gen Con and seeing a giant version of this game being played with the road sticks being three feet long. It stuck in my mind for over five years until I built a giant version for myself at home. Yard parties and BBQs are so much better when the games are giant! So great to see one of my favorite games being played!

The only rule I'd say is wrong, at least according to how the rules say, is when you knock down someone's highway you don't give them each equivalent piece (so like pillars AND roads) , you only give them pillars equivalent to what was knocked down, no roads.

I think you made a rules mistake. As I understand it, you're only supposed to give columns for every column, road or car knocked. You don't give roads.
