I've had many dogs over the years, we recently rescued a 1-2 year old Great Pyrenees, and he is the most stubborn and hard-to-train dog I've ever seen in my whole life. Seeing these lessons performed on a Pyrenees gives me some hope, even if this one in your video is very young still.

They are supposed to be stubborn... honestly. They are breed to escort flocks around without human help. Meaning they run the show including fighting any threats. Also, many are used or come lines that were sled dogs. Mine pulls all the time. It's a good workout. also check out pygmy harbor farms. and big horn mountain LSG

@RicoLen1
@RicoLen1 Жыл бұрын
@@lorenacastillo3568 We've just accepted that he's an instinctual dog. He has amazingly good instincts and he's well socialized and calm and mature, and willing to work with us to a degree. "Tricks" however are completely off the table. If I have to bribe him with treats to do anything he's not going to be trustworthy. I can get him to heel and come and stay and such, but when he decides he doesn't want to listen nothing under the sun will make him listen, because I'm not a professional dog trainer. I try to be consistent, I'm calm and assertive, but when he decides he is going to do something he does it, period. I can't trust him off leash and that's all there is to it. He us however potty trained, and tbh I worry about his potty training because he simply won't go in the house and if I allow myself to get distracted, or if I go away and someone else neglects him or something like that, he just holds it all in regardless, so I've gotten in the habit of taking him out at a certain schedule and he does let me know, by standing at the door and every minute or so barking once. I love him to death, but I've gotten to the point where I've just accepted the limitations that exist between our dynamic. A better trainer could probably get him to be trustworthy off leash. A more people pleasing dog, and I could and have in the past trained the dog to be trustworthy off leash. He's a great dog regardless.

@@RicoLen1 thanks so much for the response! I believe our pup is going to be great responsibility on teaching him lol he is very stubborn on walks . He has the basics down like sit,lay, paw but we are still struggling on following us on a walk on a lea h . But he is sweet as can be . And we are also very calm with him . Wish Us luck !

Mechanics are so important yet overlooked by most trainers. For example, keeping the lure 1 inch from nose is an important mechanic. Giving treat AS dog's behind hits the floor is also mechanics. Conveying these details is so important!

Do you have advice for getting two brothers to pay attention to the commands when they are together? I have great results when they are separated, but they ignore me when they are together. Thank you! They are about 4 and a half months old. Also, potty training advice?

My pry mix is a barker and some of the neighbors are telling me to but a no bark collar on her. What is your opinion about no bark collars?;
@RicoLen1
@RicoLen1 3 жыл бұрын
I'm no trainer, but for our Pyr, we found that exercise helps a lot, and despite the controversy over negative feedback, we used a squirt bottle. We have a very regular sleep schedule in our home, and when we go to bed, one of the last things we do is take him outside for a last-chance bathroom trip, then when he comes in we take off his collar. After that point if he barks, I get up with the squirt bottle, I tell him "no" once, and squirt him in the face. He hates it, but after just a handful of experiences with that he's almost completely stopped. In the mornings before we take him outside again, we put the collar back on. Now he is as quiet as he can be whenever he has his collar off. I'm sure there are better ways to do it, but I don't know what they are, and this worked very quickly. Maybe if someone knows a better way, if they see me telling you how I did it, they'll feel obliged to tell you just to show they know better. ;)
