My first draft is pretty good...for a first draft. Over the last several days I've been ripping it apart to try to find all the problems and figure out how to fix them. After taking copious notes and organizing them as best I could, I finally got started with tweaking my first chapter! How much do you think I can get done before the end of the month?
Q&A: If you have questions about revision, whether general questions or questions more specific to my personal process and experience, let me know! I'll either do a little segment in an upcoming vlog to answer them or film a standalone video.

Film courage is *awesome*. I’ve gotten so much good stuff from them and every interview is just incredibly entertaining. I love listening to people talk about what excites them. On your log thing, I’ve been doing something similar, but I’m also marking “time blocks” to see what I’m actually working on during the day. I have areas for writing and reading, cooking, cleaning, and gardening, and each little square is half an hour. I started it just as a way to visually see what’s being done throughout the day. I’ll also make down something specific like “finished -book-“ or something exciting that happened in the garden.

Second draft is one of my favourite stages! This book is going to be awesome!

Outlining after drafting is really effective, especially for motivation. I also tell students to do this with their academic writing, since it's easy to find organization issues that way.

I can definitely see how outlining for a research paper or essay could be super helpful with revisions!

I feel like, as writers, we'll always be able to find problems in our own work. The place where you're not improving but just changing is not always evident at first. Good luck hitting the May goals!

I'm 100% sure if I reread the book I'm querying right now, I'd find all kinds of stuff to change! Gotta let it go at some point, though. Thank you! I hope your May has seen solid writing progress, too.

I revised the outline first. It has SO MANY NOTES but at least I know what I'm trying to do in each of the scenes.

I outline while I revise but not while drafting, and it really does help! Glad revisions have started tho feel you on the deep sighs 😅

I loved the video 🫶 I have two questions, sorry 😅 1.) (more of a general writing question) How do you go about developing settings and knowing which setting to use for which scene? 2.) (revision question) If you don't have an outline, where do you recommend to start? Is rereading and making an outline as you revise a good idea?

Film courage is really good and so is 20 bucks to 50 K. It has all the different sessions from several years of the seminars, meetings, whatever they were. Anyway they’re very informative and they each run about 30 minutes to an hour

Revision Question: when you take out portions of your writing because they no longer fit the story you are writing, do you completely discard it or save it for a potential story in the future?

Love your cherry kitchen rug! ❤️ revision question maybe: do you do it all in Scrivener or any on paper? I’d like to see how you use some tools in scrivener for revision.

I love it, too! It's from Ruggable and is washable--so handy for the kitchen. I can definitely do a look at my Scrivener set-up 💕
