Let's Scout Some Cow Chow!

I love alfalfa. It’s a fun crop to manage and assess year after year. I also love it for the ground my dad farms in the hills. It’s great for the land, helps with erosion and compaction, and makes for some great cow feed.
Come along with me as I do some early season stand assessment for my dad on his Wisconsin dairy farm! Usually, I would like to do this even earlier in the alfalfa season so we would still have time to treat with a fungicide early on.

Hi KZfaq Fam! We’re the Sass family, 5th generation crop farmers in northern, Illinois. Hank, our 2-year old son pretty much runs the show day-to-day and every day is different. Josh farms with his two brothers and their dad. They all have different “specialties” on the farm, and I like to tag along to share our story. When things start growing in the Spring is my favorite time of the year. New babies on the farm and green fields... it don't get no better than that!

Why the switch of late to vertical filming? I know youtube has a bug/feature where short videos filmed vertically get promoted more, but that's mostly for cool content that draws in kids. I am sure a large portion of your viewers are older, and watch on monitors and TV's, it's hard for us to turn our monitors and tv's on their side, like you can a phone. If it was a few 30-60 second videos, I'd not worry with vertical, thinking you were just trying to play with the algorithm but 5 minutes is too long for a short, and too long to watch 75% of a screen of just 2 black bars.

It’s easier for me to film content on my phone this way. Instagram is my Main social media channel so I curate all my content for that. Working on getting my go pro going now for in season so I can do more horizontal, but right now this is what’s working for a busy mom!
