Let's See What We Can Make of This QU-32

I grabbed an Allen & Heath QU-32 recently and decided to dive into it to see what the workflow felt like. In this video I give an initial walk around of the console and build a basic mix. I still have plenty to explore, but let's jump in together and see what we can build.

I "grew up" as you could say on the QU-32, both in church and school, love the thing! Just a few tips, you can switch the effects by pressing the "Library" softkey (off the bottom left of the screen when you've got the effect on screen - this softkey is the gateway to a lot of useful things so look out for it if you're lost trying to find a setting) and selecting another one, never really used them that much though, as it was never really relevant for what we were doing. Pre- and postfade is actually per mix and channel (select a channel and go to the routing screen), which is really neat (you can also turn channels off for certain mixes, e.g. switch audience mics off LR so they only go to the livestream). The snake is a proprietary thing unfortunately, however they do have a few different types/sizes and they work well. The manual is (mostly) very well written and has a lot of info in it. All in all I find it a very good mixer, flexible enough to get it to do what you want, but simple enough for people coming from Analogue mixers to be able to mix quite quickly. And not to mention the sound is brilliant (in my opinion at least). Would love to have a go on the SQ series though, to see what it's like in comparison.

This is good info right here. I noticed that button, but ai kept trying to click the word on the screen and nothing happened. I clearly have more digging to do, but this is great direction for my learning I’ll do this week.

Hi, This QU Has Three(3) Layers, The Two You Described, Plus The Custom Layer. If You Push Both Layer Buttons Together, That Takes You To The Third Layer.

Yeah, I did find that after I created this video. That is very helpful and can make a big difference in workflow.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion. I’d have to see if I can get ahold of one like I did with this A&H console. Stay tuned to see when I’m able to get something in my hands.

I am using the QU32 but I can’t run plugins

Tell me more about what you mean when you say plugins. Are you referring to FX on the console or are you running a computer with a DAW (or other program) that you want to alter the sound and then send it back to the console? I'm happy to help, just send over more details.
