I believe the answer to the question is probably yes and no. The greastest cards for energy are usually ones that read at first as having nothing to do with energy. Your Ashnod's Altar, Krark-clan Iron Works, Goblin Engineer, and personally, one of my favorites is Mirrage Mirror. Then, one that is a bit odd from MH3 but helps with mana, cards, and upkeep triggers for energy cards all at the same time is Shadow of the Second Sun. I think the fundamental problem with energy is that for the design process, energy is not thought of as equal to mana. I would say that energy is more akin to life as a resource. While life total starts at 40 and Energy starts at 0 like lands, the energy derives its value by what you have on the board to use it on. A land that taps for one will always continue having a value of one. One energy, however, is additionally dependent on whatever you spend mana on to then spend that energy on. While WoTC has been in the space of using life to pay for things, it always lands between two major extremes. As far as our format goes, these cards have a scale from Adanto Vanguard to Necropotence, and anything between usually ends up just short of the halfway mark, or we end up with a staple like Sylvan Library. WotTC, in my opinion, is very sparing with energy. They are very scared of breaking it to the point that they print a vast majority of them to be mediocre. The archetype obviously has staples, but it is stuck in a weird limbo between being able to generate enough and having good enough payoffs to make it worth it. It's good. Do not get me wrong, but again its best combo pieces do not say anything about energy and go into a myriad of other decks. Maybe I'm super off the mark with this take. As someone who runs a Liberty Prime deck, I want energy as a mechanic to be good enough on its own. I just noticed that I ended up cutting more of the energy cards from that precon deck than almost any of the other types of cards. I hope my perspective is at least useful and not a total bummer. It seems you are ahead of me as far as exploring energy in commander. After 6 or so games, I'm still leaning on the energy cards and finding out what my best course of action is. I do feel some mh3 cards should get swapped in, that will be my next step, then I'll integrate those other great non-energy cards and that's ultimately the final form of whatever strategy I work with. I do think energy has improved as a resource and it can be successful investing in it in tandem with mana. Just like ramping with mana, there are good and bad ways to get energy. I do think you are on the right track using quality cards that aren't energy based. I think with Liberty Prime, you would lean more on frontloading energy and artifacts so you get an immediate impact when he hits the board. That's a contrast to Li where I look to get her early before developing into her. At least they widened the scope so energy has multiple directions to explore. Exciting times for energy! Hopefully it gets more love with the same frequency as recently instead of in the past. Thank you for the detailed comment!

@@EDH_Cult There are definitely pieces in MH3 that deserve a good look at to beef up the more powerful energy inclusions, and you are more than welcome for the comment. You guys have deserved the input and engagement.
