I happened across another solid Voltaire quote in a meme: To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize. And the follow-up comment was, "We need to rise up against children with leukemia." But seriously, when the mega-wealthy bought all the major news outlets and we seldom see critique of wealth hoarders in mass media... I'm sure it's just coincidence. Thank goodness for the diversity of thought available across the internet... for now.

Republicans: "protestors are violent thugs" Also Republicans: "I'll kick someone's ass if they try to make me wear a mask" Republicans: "if people just obeyed the police, they wouldn't get shot" Also Republicans: "i have 50 guns to protect against a tyrannical government" Republicans: "those bakers in CO have a right to refuse making a cake for gay people. It's THEIR business, after all" Also Republicans: "Walmart can't make me wear a mask. That's an infringement on my rights. 'Merica!!" Republicans: "MSM lies to the American people and pushes their agendas" Also Republicans: "QAnon and FOX News are exposing the deep state" Republicans: "democrats want socialism" Also Republicans: *cash their stimulus checks cuz "they've earned it" and "it's their money anyways". Republicans: "social media censors conservatives" AND "we want small government" Also Republicans: "We need government to step in and ensure those sites treat conservatives fairly or we should shut them down" And on and on and on. It's the blatant hypocrisy that makes me shudder. I don't necessarily disagree with some of the things Republicans believe. But, unlike them, I apply it evenly across the board. For instance, I agree those bakers have a right to operate their business how they'd like. I also think that the community has a right to boycott them in response. Walmart has the right to demand they cover their bucktoothed hillbilly mouths during a pandemic. They, in turn, are welcome to buy their plaid flannel shirts and cases of PBR at whatever store doesn't make them wear those liberty crushing masks. That's not a bias against conservatives, that's just fair.

You're mistake the 'Republicans' for real republican people that would sign off on your statement. The Republican Party has been taken over by monopolists, simple as that. And their goal is to further monopolize the US - for their personal benefit. Just like Adam Smith described 250 years ago: _"The interest of the dealers [referring to stock owners, manufacturers, and merchants], however, in any particular branch of trade or manufacture, is always in some respects different from, and even opposite to, that of the public. To widen the market and to narrow the competition, is always the interest of the dealers. To widen the market may frequently be agreeable enough to the interest of the public; but to narrow the competition must always be against it, and can serve only to enable the dealers, by raising their profits above what they naturally would be, to levy, for their own benefit, an absurd tax upon the rest of their fellow-citizens."_ & _"The proposal of any new law or regulation of commerce which comes from this order, ought always to be listened to with great precaution, and ought never to be adopted till after having been long and carefully examined, not only with the most scrupulous, but with the most suspicious attention. It comes from an order of men, whose interest is never exactly the same with that of the public, who have generally an interest to deceive and even to oppress the public, and who accordingly have, upon many occasions, both deceived and oppressed it."_ Why this is happening I explain here (please have a read): www.quora.com/If-there-is-economic-class-warfare-in-the-US-which-class-is-winning-and-why/answer/Joan-Spark

@Dnomse Reldas I understand what you're saying, but I'll let others coddle them. I don't give a fuck about their tender sensitivities, and I'm not going to pretend they have a valid point. I'm not labeling THEM as racists, conspiracy theorists, and idiots, I'm calling them out for it. And I usually provide evidence why. If you oppose clean air and water, then you're insane. If you can't accept demonstrable science, you're an idiot. If you think dems aren't going to prison because of a secret system and the all the cons going to prison have been framed, well, I don't normally call people conspiracy theorists, I'd call them delusional idiots. And if, say, they oppose BLM wholesale, then I might call them bigots. Because THEY ARE those things. It's not like I'm lying. How many times have you told cons they need to start accepting facts? Or that they need to stop fighting against clean air and water? Or that climate change must be addressed immediately? No, it's always this side that's expected to accommodate them. Fuck that. They're wrong; objectively. I've tried your way. They refuse to listen. They refuse to learn. And the arguments they use are usually lies. I'm not telling you not to hold their hand. And I'm not real big on you telling me not to drag them by the ear. You've given your advise, and I've clearly explained why I'm passing on it. We all play a part. You have a nice day.

It is fellow Americans that have destroyed neighborhoods and livelihoods to bump a stock price or put money into their own pockets. What is sad is the Americans who are the ones that actually do this play on the racism of some. They will misdirect people and put the blame every place else but where it belongs. There is only one group to blame. It is the wealthy that are selling us out. They repeatedly choose their pockets over their fellow Americans. About 40 years ago the Irish Govt brought in “free” college education. I availed of this benefit. Back in 1980 Ireland was the poor cousin of Europe, a beer and biscuits economy which relied on agriculture and exported its youth to the US and the UK. In 2019 Ireland was a booming economy. A net contributor to the EU budget, 18% of its GDP was contributed by multinationals which settled in Ireland because of its educated workforce. 90% of Irish teenagers go to college these days.

“Well, howdy there, Internet people. It’s Beau again. So, today we're going to talk about another Alice analogy. The reason I love them is because they're very fitting for today, you know, the whole idea is that it's nonsense. Everything is what it isn’t. And that's pretty apt for the current state of the United States, where people who agree on things will oppose each other, simply based on labels. So today we are going to talk about how conservatives constantly advocate for the policies that AOC wants. Really. In fact, conservatives are actually better at bringing social democratic policies to the people than social democrats are. Because conservatives constantly advocate for health care, better health care, even. Guaranteed bank loans for houses, mental health care, free college, food security, housing, better funded schools, day care access. Legal help for like estate planning and stuff like that. Family planning and retirement for everybody. Those are social democratic policy, that's what AOC and her crew, that's what they want. And right now the conservatives are like, “we don't! You got us wrong. We don't advocate for that. That's wrong. If Americans had that, well, they'd be lazy.” But see, they know that's not true. Because they do advocate for it constantly. for a subset of the population. And I don't think there is a conservative out there who would be willing to come forth and say that members of the U.S. military are lazy. I don’t believe that person exists. The military has all that. Why? Because deep down, conservatives know that it makes people more productive. It makes the organization more efficient. They know this. It's why they fight so hard for the military to have it. And if you were to ask conservatives about the military, they would say that it's the greatest on the planet. If it makes the military the greatest on the planet, what do you think it would do for the rest of the country? The other argument would be that “no, no, no! See those in the military - they earned it!” They earned it. The factory worker, the farmer, the truck driver, the teacher, the firemen - they didn't huh? I don't think it's that either. I think they know the country would be better off if people had this. But they're trained. They are trained to oppose it, by those on the top who want those on the bottom divided. Who don’t want the average American to have a sense of security. Because the system requires that they be insecure. So, they constantly chase that dollar. So those at the top can make more dollars. That's what it's about. I would suggest that the average conservative knows that this kind of access to these social features would not make people lazy. They know it doesn't. They advocate for it for the very people we expect to be least lazy. I think It really has to do with them just accepting that those at the top need us divided. And, the other side to this, and one of the other reasons those at the top don't want everybody to have this, is because if everybody did have it, I imagine it'd be a whole lot harder to get young poor kids to sign up to go fight unnecessary wars, so those at the top can make more money. You want to support the troops, you want to support the vets - stop turning them into combat vets. If everybody had this, that'd probably be a step in that direction. Anyway, it's just a thought. Y'all have a good day.”

Linda Ciccoli Unfortunately, Linda, millions of Americans have been willing to die for their schemes of turning the world into a democracy, which very often really meant getting our hands on some other country's oil or whatever it was we wanted at the time. Many volunteered because they needed the security of the military, the housing, the healthcare, or the promise of an education, and in order to have those things for themselves and their family, they were willing to risk their lives for Halliburton's schemes of endless profit (funny how our VP Dick Cheney used to be their CEO) or Blackwater or whoever made Agent Orange, etc. Sad, isn't it?

This is the truest truth that ever truthed a truth. I grew up as a military kid (80-93) and when my dad got out, I could never understand why everyone else (including us at that point) didn’t have all the benefits we had in the army. As I grew up, what you said became painfully and sickeningly clear. This needs to be delivered to every Republican and Democrat. We have more common interests than you think. I should add that I live in Canada now, so I do have a lot of those things, but all my family are still in the states.

Most Americans will know that we have all these things in Europe and I don't think that European workers are lazy. American workers wouldn't turn lazy, either. They'd feel safer and be more productive than they are already. Both sides would benefit. Maybe you should also have labour laws like we have them. Most important part of these laws is, that companies can't fire you as easily anymore. That also makes for feeling safer and for more productivity. Good labour laws make it easier to plan your life - marriage, a house and children. People who can be sacked within a day, can't plan for anything at all. This isn't socialism or communism, it's social-democracy. It isn't evil, because we wouldn't have it if it was. It wouldn't be the end of the US, but maybe a restart.

We have labor unions, and they work hard to ensure fair pay, safe conditions, reasonable working hours, medical care, but Corporate management has brought back union busting. @thedogfatherjt2243

@@Kaotiqua I apologize for the length of the following comment. We watched the demise of British unions under Thatcher and it was a shame. It won't get better under Johnson, especially not after Brexit and the economic turmoil that will be the result of that step. In continental Europe most countries have strong labour laws and even our conservative parties are social democratic to a certain degree. I wish all European countries had strong unions like France, but at least there are laws that protect workers in all countries. If a company wants to fire an employee and can't provide a good reason, a three-month notice period must be observed. This gives the worker time to look for another job while he's still employed. If he can't find a new job, social security takes effect. As far as I know, there's no time limit for receiving social benefits in any European country, but of course the unemployed have to prove their efforts to find a new job. None of this would exist without unions and social democracy. In Germany e.g., the pressure that the Social Democrats had built up in the late 19th century was so tremendous that Otto von Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm I were forced to introduce general health insurance, accident insurance, unemployment insurance, and pension insurance. Had they not done that, the Social Democrats would have won a majority in the Reichstag. That was in 1883. What does that show? The Social Democrats don't have to win the election as long as they can apply enough pressure to achieve their goals. In Germany there is proportional representation, so every vote counts. In American and British majority voting, the winner takes all. In most European countries, parties have to form coalitions in order to govern. This means that the interests of different voters are better represented. It's extremely unlikely that one party could win an absolute majority and then govern alone. I think proportional representation is more democratic. It's impossible for two parties to be able to represent the will of *all* voters. People's interests are too different for that. With only the republicans or the democrats in power, it'll be very difficult to change the situation of American workers.
@thedogfatherjt2243

@@danmartin313 I agree to a certain degree. If there were no unions, the companies were able to pay ridiculous wages or cut the vacation entitlement from the average 30 days down to 20 or less. The unions negotiate wages and other social benefits. The labour laws alone wouldn't be enough to support workers. There's something I watch with sorrow and that's the loss of union members all over Europe. Those who aren't members still benefit from the work of the unions and it would only be fair to pay member fees. Without unions there wouldn't be works councils and the companies would rule ruthlessly.

Rich man’s war, poor man’s fight. Kinda like in the Matrix... whole harvest were lost when the Matrix made the “batteries” happy and perfectly content. Humans feed on their own misery. Another thing about poor people. They may begrudge the fact that they’re poor and the rich guy is rich, but as they say “can’t fault a man fir being rich.” Reminds me of that song by Dire Straights “Money for Nothing.” The two blue collar stiffs grudgingly accept the fact that the rock stars are rich as a great scam

The basis of the original Matrix is that it was used to harness human brains as a super computer, which made more sense, but they had to dumb it down in a way for the general audience to understand in a movie. Obviously the "battery" power could be attained more easily from animals that don't have our level of self awareness, but it did still make a good point about how the dumb and unaware people are dangerous to those who are "woke" to the reality so to speak. Anyway I think the "batteries" dumbing down to the Matrix concept it's a great allegory for the US - everything dumbed down to the point where there are huge plot holes in our society.
