I think you gave a fair and balanced view of recasting and did a good job putting all sides of the argument across. Also you're colossal squig looks bad ass.

Thanks, I tried not to be preachy, and just present the topic. And thank you for the kind words, I wish I could have gotten him finished, tho it helped prove the point that recasts sometimes arent what people will think they will be.

Recasting is such a touchy subject, though I would love to pay next to nothing for the hobby I love but most times I just can't buy them. It is more because I want to support Games Workshop with their models but hate their prices in Australia. But it is what it is tbh. Also amazing paintjob man I would love to see this on a full Tyranid army one day.

I couldn't agree more with this. Considering the margins on the models and considering the support we get for specific armies, I go recaster very often nowadays. I have to. How can I not? Why would you "support" games workshop when they leave your army on 8th rules, up against 3 wound terminators, for what will be over 12 months for some? How about, before I spend another 2000 on authentic GW models, I get a 9th edition codex? How much do I have to invest in a company before I can reasonably expect some customer service in the form of rules? Nah man. Forget it. Sitting on 1 wound grey knights for 8 months (so far) is a joke. This is some brutal treatment from a company I've given enough money for a decent gaming PC. Don't even get me started on my 8k points of tau. GW needs to seriously look at the way they release rules and focus on making the game you play with the models better, so people are encouraged to look at investing more into a fantastic well balanced game where they reasonably expect their rules to receive balancing constantly. I would buy small collections from like 6 factions if the game was better.

I look at it this way. An "original" has to be purchased from either a vendor or direct from the manufacturer, or second/n^th hand from someone who did. So, the manufacturer is making money on their IP. Maybe not as much as they would if their was no recasting going on, but a profit none the less. Even with the profiteer recasters, companies like GW haven't gone belly up. At least, not yet... ...and it doesn't take much to look at their stock portfolio and realize that it hasn't hurt their bottom line. That said, I have no problems with recasting for personal use, but selling recasts purely for profit is ultimately wrong. Now, if someone purchases an "original", recasts it, then sells the genuine, "original" IP, then that is fine. Ultimately, recasts should have lower value over all because they are not "originals", but morally, should not be on the market. Yet, they are. This comes back to OOP arguments, which, I must admit are a bit grey in my mind. In the end, I know how to use silicone and resin, and with great power comes great responsibility.

Good points all around for and against recasts, end of the day however is recasts are part of the hobby now and there is no getting rid of them, myself as an ork player I have always wanted a Battlefortress and I would snap up a recast or real one if I found it, legality wise its not illegal where I am from so I do not care too much about European or American morality around the subject, recasts are normal where I am from for all sorts, different cultures.

First of all, fantastic job on your Squig he looks awesome 😃👍🏼 Re-casting is a very tricky subject. I have personally never brought a re-cast but feel if a model is OOP I think it’s ok as long as no one is profiting from it. Also casting small pieces for kit bashing or for base decoration for personal use (not to sell) seems ok ish in my opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️

Recasting for personal use is 100% legal. Unless you think making a mixtape for personal use is illegal. Also as a buyer od recasts and originals, forgeworld quality is terrible compared to Russiacast or even Chinacast. The work you had to do wasnt as much as i had to do on my colossal squig straight from FW

Thanks for your comment. Mixtapes aside, , at least in the case of Games Workshop’s IP policy, “Reproduction for personal use is not an automatic exemption from copyright protection in many territories worldwide.” so you may or may not be correct depending in where you live. Thanks.for watching.

Great video. I think recasting for personal use us ok. But doing it to sell other people work as your own is a big no no.

There were a few times when I came this close to buying recasts. I guess the straw that pushed me to the antirecast side was when I went to wish and out of curiosity looked up dnd minis. All recasts of small independent creators. And I'm not fine with that.
