I love how polite Hosoyan is. And he's totally right: Happiness takes many shapes and they're all valid!

I remember Ucchi giving an advice to a listener to "just get married if you want to, and not get married if you don't want to. Marriage is a personal preference, and though people might mean well, it's still your life so live it the way you like." or something like that. I agree with Hosoyan, that I hope these values would change over time. Thank you for this compilation! ❤

I remember an anecdote where Sawashiro Miyuki thought Ishida-san was seeing someone because he mentioned that he doesn't wash his own plates at home (she thought he had a wife/gf cleaning up for him). It turned out that it was because Ishida-san only uses disposable plates, so he doesn't have to do his own dishes 😂 Ishida-san only spoke up once about his past relationships (he only started dating in college), and he comes across as someone who isn't massively interested in having a partner - regardless of gender. In any case, I find his attitude towards singlehood refreshing especially in East Asian societies where there is a lot of pressure to settle down and start a family. Now that I think about it, it seems that there are a few older seiyuus who never actually got married. There's Sugita Tomokazu and his circle (Yasumoto-san, Nakamura-san, OnoD), because they're nerds lol; and I think Konishi Katsuyuki and Suwabe Junichi are unmarried as well.

I absolutely love and deeply resonate with Hosoyan's views on this topic and I love how his words were carefully worded. It's such a global "issue", isn't it? 😂 That people would instantly think you're miserable just because you're not married. Marriage isn't a 100% guarantee for happiness, folks!

Thought that was obvious, marriages are sometimes arranged and theyre not happy but do it out of tradition or parents. At the end of the day, its a choice either to live someone elses life or live your own life

That clip of Hosoyan was such an eye opener for me. For the longest time I couldn't put into words how I felt about marriage but when I heard that clip some time ago, it made me realize my own feelings and thoughts. I even shared it to my friends so now they they even bring him up when we have these kinds of convos lol. Hosoyan's words made me calm down and feel like it's not bad to not want to be married.

Hosoya words really touch my soul, very deep. Simple and understandable. How happiness works, it doesnt rely on marriages. There's other thing in your life that gives you a happiness.

I saw Hosoya-san's comments on this before and I always thought he did a really good job of explaining why it's possible to be happy without marriage. The other thing that needs to be normalized is being in a relationship without children. I know Japan has a concern about low childbirth rate, so that influences a lot of comments, but just like with marriage, not everyone is suited to parenthood.

Yess. When news about abuse on children come out, people are so quick to say “omg dont reproduce!” but when couples decided to be child-free, people are judging them 🥲 smh let ppl live however they want as long as theyre not bothering others ;o;

@k o n p e i ✰ s u b s I've been in a long term non-marriage myself (almost 15 years), and we briefly discussed children at the start, but decided against it. We don't have the finances and I am too independent, personally. No shame in that, but I've had some people criticize me as being "selfish."

Well, as single person, i appreciate how they view marriage not as a bar of happiness, but a matter of choice. And yea, 100% agree w/ that. The problem here (at least in my country) is, a single women life is hard. Well, for the fortunate who have money maybe don't have this trouble, but as a low-payed employee w/out assurance, bad blood w/ father n brother (who doesn't care to exchange pleasantries w/ me, let alone helping me), n being shackled w/ the responsibilities of taking care my mom, I was struggling w/ my daily life n doing it alone. I'm not against marriage or even hate it. But the idea of marriage after so many things, it's so daunting n fearful thing for me. This is why i can never stomach of having a romantic relationship. No thanks to my past abuse (physical n psychological) from my parents. At the same time, i feel so lonely n want to have someone at my side. BUT, as a company rather than husband. Which is so damn hard in this place.

As someone who had been in a similar position. You definitely dont need anyone, it is a choice. You can choice to go foward or stay where you are. If your in financial burden then put effort into changing that by having more then a single source of income. Also you dont need a romantic partner if you need help sometimes, try to make friends and live your life. Theres alot more freedom to move around and do whatever you want when youre not held back by responsibilities of taking care of a spouse or children. Also your parents needs to be responsible for themselves, this may come off cold but they will be fine and learn to survive without you. They are robbing you of your youth and life. You can help them in otherways but sometimes be a little greedy/selfish yet kind and caring.

This is a great message to put out there. They put a lot of focus on marriage leading to happiness but never really talk about it when marriage breaks down and people split up. I personally would have loved to have gotten married but according to what my ideals for marriage are (not religious ones). I think more people are avoiding getting married because of the expectations placed upon marriage that come with it. Marriage is already an expectation and once you give in to that, there are more expectations that one must be subjected to. I think my parents got married because they really did like each other but I think that part of why they left their home country was to escape the prying eyes of family. They never really talked about it but they never pressured their own kids to get married and have kids. They just wanted us to grow up happy and marriage was never a prerequisite for happiness.
@Mars_261
@Mars_261 Жыл бұрын
that is so true. my parents never bring up the topic of marriage to me in a profound way till now (I'm 20) maybe that why I'm more open about the idea of marriage unlike my peers but it's not something I'm thinking about right now (I haven't graduated yet so). The expectations of marriage is something to think about before marriage but that shouldn't stop people from pursuing marriage if they find someone fit to be their marriage partner. and I hope you, if you ever get married, live happily with your significant other forever 💕💕 (sorry if my English is bad😣)
@olive4naito
@olive4naito Жыл бұрын
@@Mars_261 Thank you. What I meant by marriage expectations is that different people place different expectations on marriage. Finding an ideal marriage partner is finding someone who has similar marriage expectations as you do. People generally have trouble finding someone who is capable of that and that's why they're not yet married. There is no reason not to get married if you find someone who is compatible with you in terms of marriage values but that was the hard part for me. If I had married the first person to suggest marriage, the marriage wouldn't have lasted because their marriage expectations were too different from mine. They couldn't commit to a relationship before marriage and still expected (overnight) a lifelong commitment without having built that type of relationship. They were very much into an old fashioned idea of dating after marriage which meant no contact with me until then but even those values were unclear since they were still meeting with other women. So when they finally decided to get married, I'm guessing none of the other women thought he was good enough. He was under the assumption that because I wanted a committed relationship many years before that I was their best chance for marriage. It's a very weird example I know. Most guys aren't that weird and will communicate clearly what their plans are particularly if it involves something serious like marriage. I guess my point is that I notice a lot of people go from wanting independence to abruptly wanting a relationship for no deeper reason than simply wanting to go through the process like everyone else. Consistency is reliability. Even my parents dated for two years before marriage so they knew what to expect. No surprises. What I don't want is to get married because everyone else is and the find myself trapped and alone like many lonely wives and husbands out there. Finding a commitment minded partner comes first before I can even fathom marriage. Thank you for wishing me happiness. May you find happiness with or without marriage as well. Don't worry about your English. I only speak two languages so I'm not that much better.

Thank you for subbing this! As someone that is probably also never going to marry, I always find it reassuring to hear other and especially older people than me talk about it too. To me, it's just so weird that everyone else seems convinced there can be no happiness without a marriage, without a partner. Sure I believe that there can be happiness with a partner but also unhappiness. It's like anything else, it can be good, it can be bad, it can change. So if being single is good for me, why would you wish that risk of change on me and not just be happy with me? I would know best when to change.

I've BPD so it's hard for me to be in a harmonious relationship and although I'm still young, I decided to not marry, that's my plan at least. It's not just for mental health related, I've the same opinion about others too, just do whatever you want and be happy for others' decision. Unhappy marriage is worse than unmarried.

Tbh I'd rather not married if I judge my self not ready yet, in my opinions married without enought preps is just lust , since that decision not just involving the partner but everyone around them and can affect them too, like the common ones is like marriage where they had child but not ready to raise one yet so it affect their parents or sibling who forced to help babysitting instead

The thing about being married "early" is that you can birth more children thus more manpower. Nowadays you can marry however late you want because you dont need a child anyway. Women "expires" earlier than men, so they are most likely to be "forced" to marry early.
