the pc handheld market right now really reminds me of how vr headsets were a couple of years back. Every company thought they could capture the market with gimmicks while the public just wants something with as few compromises as possible. The claw is sadly more or less another gimmick.

Wow that’s a pretty apt comparison. I got way into VR at launch and watched the tech largely stagnate.

I don't compare MSI Claw day one to the ROG Ally Day 1 because the claw had nine months to make improvements to build on top of what the ROG Ally has already done.

I think it makes more sense to keep it and update as updates come out rather then buy it all over again.

I have the feeling that price/performance ratio will only improve because the price will drop. I am not sure the performance will be fixed , at least not in a huge way.

We got MSI here in City of Industry and I believe they are still a Taiwanese company by the name of Microstar International. They really need chinese/english speaker to push their product instead of just dump it on some foreigners.

Not for me. I unfortunately couldn’t care less for anything that isn’t the Deck or something pocket sized like a Retroid at this time. Hopefully we’ll see some improvements across the board with handhelds in the near future, but until then I’m happy with the OLED Deck. Solid coverage tho!

You may wanna look at AYN ODIN 2, it's an ARM-based Handheld using Android. The Size is smaller than Deck/Ally/Claw and has GREAT Battery Life. The downsides; it can't emulate PS3/X360/Switch flawlessly.

The Claw needs to get 2x as good (performance) to even be slightly worth it. IF (big if) the Claw has 100% more potential that means that MSI released a prototype and charged more than the competition.

Eh, there’s more issues that can’t be fixed with software updates. That’s a little hopeful imo. I had this handheld for a few weeks and it was absolutely a dumpster fire. The d-pad is horrible, mine even started squeaking. It’s too hard to press. The shoulder buttons are really hard to press at many angles too. There’s also many issues with games just not even launching. The 1% lows are horrible on most aaa titles so anyone showing fps numbers and being positive about it should be ware. Anyone being positive about this beware also. Msi dropped the ball on this and doesn’t seem they did any market research from real tech channels who focus on handhelds. Holding the claw in your hand you’d think they advised fisher price on the d-pad lol. Also we got bamboozled with the backplate. It’s not vented near as much as it looks. Most of it’s blocked off. The last point is it’s very very difficult fo to change or upgrade the nvme. You have to remove the heat sink and fan and have to repaste the apu as well. That’s not good. Also my keyboard didn’t work either the first time. There’s no vram adjustment. The idle ram usage is higher than i have ever seen on any device out of the box. There’s dozens and dozens of just msi services hiding and stealing your ram. I even debloated the heck out of it and still it helped but not enough. There’s just too much going on and 799 is an insult. Oh and I tried the new intel driver and it made performance worse on fps games like cod. I had tried the new bios and every thing as well

Microsoft needs to make a windows equivalent of Steam OS or make the Xbox windows OS available to OEM manufacturers for these devices to become viable competitors to Steam Deck.

I've owned a rog ally since launch. I recently got a deck oled and the deck is by far the only handheld worth your time. If you need to be plugged in to get the perfomance and battery life then you dont have a portable pc. I don't think anyone but valve gets it. Plus as someone that has used Windows for 30 years, it does not work on a handheld. The claw is just a joke and will be on sale very soon.

Intel only cuts it if you have a portable nuclear reactor and liquid nitrogen to cool it. This applies to desktop and mobile. Intel actively cause global warming.

You lowkey should have judged it by your experience at CES 😅 *If the game that a company explicitly choose to show off is not running well what does that show about the product?* It makes them look clueless, because why are you showcasing a game that doesn't even run well on your device?

Actually if it wasn’t for the high price indies would be exactly what would be perfect for a device like this that and emulation AAA games are overrated cut and paste same game different skin while milking gamers like cash cows indies on the other hand are low cost fun also some of them are cheap enough that you can buy multiple games at once in different genres and they have actual innovation.

The MSI Claw is an insult to the handheld gaming market. Even if you can get it for around $400 it doesnt compare to the Ally or the Steam deck. It's been a while since ive seen a complete failure of a product to release in the last decade. If Intel and MSI want to prove me, and all other gamers, wrong then please make us eat our words.

@Coconutgl
@Coconutgl 2 ай бұрын
@@GibJavelin it is totally different. When steam deck was released, there was no competitor.(ignore other small brands had only thousands units sales). When ALLY was released, it was the only windows handheld you could choose. At the same time, even ALLY software had problems, AMD's desktop graphic drivers and APU laptop have already worked very well, therefore everyone believed the problems of ALLY would be solved very soon. However Intel is not in the same situation, Arc driver in desktop are not working very well, the core ultra laptops have the same performance problem as Claw, we don't see Intel can fix the problem in near future, and there is high chance that Intel will never solve the problem because core ultra is really worse that Zen4+Rnda3.

@@GibJavelin Legion Go has its special features, larger screen, attachable joycon with specific designed for fps. Therefore it has its own market, which is totally different with MSI CLAW, it is 90% similar as ALLY except the flaw core ultra.

There is no chance the claw will improve over time for one reason only, the intel gpu, sorry intel has always been shit when it comes to gpu. On any gaming pc it has always been NVIDIA or ATI for video. The MSI CLAW shouldn't have been released until it was tested.
