Glad to see that the move to Plushenko is working for Trusova. Medevedeva's situation is breaking my heart. At this point, it's fair to ask whether she'll even return to competition again. If she skated for any other country, she'd have the luxury of time to recover. But in Russian ladies, the competition is so fierce there's no time for stuff like that.

I competed at the 2003 World Trampoline Championships and was lucky enough to come home with a couple of medals. I look now at how the sport has evolved within our own community and thank god I'm long since retired. The way sports evolve is just amazing, you think one limit is reached and someone goes and does the unthinkable. I feel you two!

Thank you, guys. Decent as always, knowlegeable and positive. (reading Russian comments I feel one needs to put the mask on, to filter things) Have you seen Tamara Moskvina at the rink side? Right after Igor Moskvin`s death, she couldn`t let her teams down. Everybody was sure she wouldn`t be there. Sasha Boykova had tears after the programme and said that skating as such was really secondary at that moment

I am most looking forward to the pairs as I am just too tired of the drama in ladies skating. It is just awful. Adding to that, the media is getting on the bandwagon and only showing live on national channels the ladies event. So the pressure is immense on these girls. The other events are streamed online. I am female and I think this is super disrespectful to the pairs, dance and men as there are very talented and strong competitors on each event. I was surprised on the comment about Kozlovsky and Boikova looking like two separate skaters with no commitment. Are you sure you did not mean Tarasova and Morozov? These two barely look at each other and really not making effort to hide the fact that this is like a forced marriage in way. Kozlovsky showers Boikova with attention and support both on and off ice, I guess they are just maybe attempting new programs with a very grown-up music. I worry more about their technique because again they really want to leave the junior "status" behind and just attempt more senior stuff. All in all I love Moskvina and love the fact that she is back in the game with two good pairs, who show high potential to be serious contenders for medals at the next OGs)). From Russia with Love!

I think the Russian girls are going to have careers that are 2 years long. What's going to be a bummer is for someone that's super talented to become a senior the year after the Olympics. By the time they get to the next Olympics, there might be someone younger than them that will make the team before they do. It's a shame, because they're all amazing.

Yes, it does seem like a revolving door. Only Liza T. seems to have longevity still competing at 23. I give her a lot of credit, practicing the quad toe and continuing to land the 3A. She does lose levels on her other components, but still remains in the mix.

2 seasons of being able to land quads does not make for a long career in figure skating. Especially if that means you are retiring before you're 18 years old due to either injury or not being able to keep up because your body can't handle what a 15 year olds can, as the last 2 Russian ladies olympic gold medalists have done. I have a feeling the ISU will be looking at the possibility of changing the age requirements if they haven't already.
@Helen-me1vn
@Helen-me1vn 3 жыл бұрын
Alina didn't retired because of injury or because she couldn't keep up. She's doing shows and she is still jumping 3Lz and 3F. She said the media saying horrible things about her every time she made mistakes really affected her mentally. People who declared her "over" or that "puberty was ruining her" every time she made a mistake like she wasn't allowed to not be perfect. She's much happier now doing school and shows and is a much better place mentally. The "she's over I predict she's going to retire" people ruined her confidence in competition. I hope the public doesn't do this to whoever wins the next Olympics. It's bullying and many skaters have spoken about this. Alina is also not lie Adelina who only won the Olympics, the only major international title, and then quit. Alina has many international medals (all of them) and she didn't quit when she messed up at Worlds the first time, she took her time through her struggles to adapt to her new body and won Worlds finally. She also kept going after that, winning GPs. Most people retired after winning Olympics but Alina did not.

Canadian Beauty Geek gee I wonder how she got injured like that in the first place... surely it couldn’t have anything to do with Eteri’s training which has destroyed the bodies of several young girls. And how coincidental that the injury improved under a less inhumane coach, and then became instantly worse when she went back to the coach with the starvation, body shaming, overtraining coach. It must have been a biking accident...
@samiracle
@samiracle 3 жыл бұрын

@@samiracle oh please.. this injury flared up before the test skates, she was told to take it easy there but she pushed herself which added to the injury. Hanyu has had injuries and he trains under Orser. Tuktamysheva has chronic back problems and she trains under Mishin. Injuries are not limited to Eteri skaters. The more the skaters push themselves for bigger jumps and more complex programs, injuries will happen regardless of the coach.

@trylogic4084
@trylogic4084 3 жыл бұрын
The first of those skaters who can match the number of Nathan's quads will beat him. I don't think he's keeping up artistically. In an interview Raf said that he told Nathan he didn't like several things about his skating, and Nathan agreed with him. So they decided to throw everything at it on the way to the Olympics, dance lessons, the whole nine yards. I hope he does, because the only thing that moves me that he does anymore are his jumps. He supposedly had years of ballet training, but he doesn't hit good positions with his hands, they don't add to the choreography. He doesn't have good "dance" hands, if that makes sense. If he had them before, I feel like he forgot it. I really want Nathan to win that Olympic gold medal, so I hope he does the work.

When Hanyu is done, he'll say he's done. He can easily go for a third OGM and match Gillis Grafstrom's record at Beijing. Kolyada and Shoma have never really beaten Yuzuru, either; Shoma won at one National competition. I love him, but his technique is not great. Nathan has all textbook quads, and Yuzuru is the most complete figure skater ever. I'll be surprised if Shoma even places on the podium at Beijing.
