Totally agree. Elk at 50 yds whitetail at 6 feet moose at 10 feet. That's my kind of hunting. That's what I've done and taught my kids.

Most dedicated hunters have enough respect for the game to close the gap for a humane kill. A rifle shot at 6’ on a elk deer or moose will at most penetrate the .308 diameter hole maybe skin deep, burn some hair. If you’ve ever actually taken game you should know you cut the wound channel off of edible meat. We are not interested in taking pot shots at these majestic animals hoping to drop one so we can get that perfect video of us high fiving and hootin on a KZfaq video just to boost our egos. It’s the love and passion of ethical hunting that drives dedicated hunters. Give it a try it’s a feeling you’ll never forget.

"hunter"? people mistake FILLING A FREEZER Hunter, with a "hobby hunter", there is plenty of overlap. but, there is a difference. I enjoy hunting, but at the end of the day, I am there to fill the freezer. I DO kill big bucks, not as a trophy, as much as a Large mule buck has 3X the meat of a little mule buck.

I live outside Phoenix, Az. I watch sheriff's at Archangel shooting range practice 3 mile shots, now, they haven't had any luck but they are getting close. We have plenty Big horn out here and long range is almost necessary, there are humans out here in that are more than capable of ethnically taking a shot like that. Just because you can't and others fail, dosent mean Randy is the only capable human! But he sure does seem to think so.!

Have you used it on elk? I've used 300 wby, 340 wby, 300 RUM, 30-06 and 308 Win with success, always wanted to try the ol 375 H&H

@@willrowell3218 the 300 weatherby is MY JAM, 168-180 gr Barnes TTSX are absolute elk hammers at any muzzle velocity north of 3k, current load is a BT TTSX at 3375 fps, love that hog clapping with the 375!!

I've always been fascinated by Roy Weatherby and his cartridges. As far as 30 caliber magnums go, I've always though the Weatherby would be the best all around choice. Noticeably faster than the old reliable 30-06, but without the recoil and short barrel life of the 30-378 Wby and the 300 RUM. @@DonGilbertoGuruledeNuevoMejico

Guess if you know velocity's in cartridges. you should know there is none that fly's so fast at 800 yds POI. When you develop a cartridge with a 5.5K Fps muzzle velocity with a 175 grns bullet let me know. And don't pull the 220 Swift or a 22-378 Wby on me🤣@@AikensLake701

Hi Dane, All SST are what they were designed for to blow to pieces and leave nothing but shrapnel. Thanks for watching.

To me, Eld-x and SST bullets are essentially rebranded match bullets. They are meh to mediocre for a thin-skinned game such as deer and antelope. Said bullets dump their energy too quickly, in my opinion. The result is core and jacket separation they tend to fragment. If you go for a heart shot, frontal or quarter shot, or high shoulder shot and you hit bone, forget about it! Plan on tracking! Plan on going for a long hike! Mind you, I hunt Whitetails mainly. If you are patient, wait for that broad side behind the shoulder shot, said bullets will turn their internals into mush. If you are patient and you have good shot placement, said bullets can be effective on deer sized game. There is no exit wound. ELD-x and SST bullets are excellent for Varmints and predators. They are accurate bullets. I give them that. I wouldn't even attempt to use SST'S or Eld-x bullets on anything bigger than deer. We have wild boar and Black Bear, I prefer something that's tougher. I personally like Barnes and Nosler Partitions, For Bear and Hogs. With Elk, it's the same deal, usually with an elk sized game you want to roll with a heavier tough bullet. Our state of VA just started allowing hunters to hunt elk via a limited lottery system. For eastern woodlands, terrain long range for us isn't a thing. A hunter will have no problem killing an elk with a 30-06, which for woodlands range hunting is more than adequate. In the woods of VA, you can't see more than 150 yards. If you are hunting in a type of environment like me, you're 30-06 with a good 180gr Barnes TSX or Nosler Accubond or Partition is hard to beat for elk. Most folk hunt elk in western states. Ranges are longer. Don't shoot further than you are comfortable shooting. Know your limits. I can't emphasize that enough. I've worked with Hornady bullets before both SST and Eld-x. For game bullets, if you can call them that.. they are limited in what you can do with them. I've stopped using them because you don't always get that ideal broadside shot. I run mainly Partitions along with Federal fusion bullets for Whitetails these days. I still use the Eld-x for banging gongs and shooting whistle pigs and coyotes. Take it from me, choose a better bullet. There's nothing worse than having game getting away from you because of the bullet you choose to run. Don't believe the hype. Randy does an excellent job of telling the truth!

I’m fairly certain that a 36 ton projectile will harvest the biggest bull elk that has ever existed. …and I thought that there were no stupid questions.

I am man enough to admit that I made that shot, decades ago, and then admit it was then that I realized that it was not the thing to do. How many people put their mistakes, and admit them, out for the public to hiss on? And gadgetry doesn't make a hunter. Even when used a person should know how to, literally, hunt. Not snipe, not rely on "just" gadgets, but on skill to hunt.

Come on guys. If you don’t like it just don’t watch it. You may not agree or you may not like his presentation style but if you know guns and you watch a lot of his videos, he has a vast amount of knowledge about a lot of things.

I been having 1st hand experience with the 300 prc, and the 6.5 prc as well as the 6.5 Creedmoor, and all his talk is jibrish to me! I been doing load development and I personally wasn't behind the rifle the moment an elk was rendered! But I was helping with the DOPE!
