I like to convert my PDFs to JPG or PNG (many free online tools available). I then insert into Microsoft Word, then use the Picture Format tab to adjust the image to grey scale. Some printers do give you the option to print grey scale as well. This is how I lighten lines. There are other functions in Picture Format tab to edit the image including the ability to add or remove objects. Pretty cool for word document software.

This is great! Paper is soooo personal & I had a hard time figuring out what I liked so I have reams & reams that I now have to force myself to use rather than just the ones I ended up liking. Waste not Want not & all that. This was a big big issue for me when I started coloring in 2020 so I hope this helps others.

This video is a good start to some issues I'm facing while printing PDFs. Any ideas why despite realigning my printer it misses whole horizontal lines of print by one pixel ? The thicker the paper the worse it is. The missing lines are equally spaced apart by an inch. Think I need to upgrade the printer ? Any ideas/suggestions welcome as it's spoiling finished pictures. Thank you.

I've spent well over a year (maybe two by now) researching printers. Most laser printers among the major manufacturers up to the $300 range only officially support paper weights up to the 43 lbs. Some inkjet\desk jet models in the same range only officially support up to 27 lbs. Some people are financially able just to ram any other higher weights through and treat printers like disposable technology. I'm other words, if it breaks, so what? Just get a new one. Those of us on limited incomes often depend on purchased extended warranties, and cannot afford to just ran any paper weights we want through. Often, using devices outside their supported specifications can void the terms of those extended warranty, if the device breaks. When I buy expensive items, I depend on the ability to get that item replaced through the plan, should the product fil. Sometimes you have to send the devices in, in order for the The plan to be honored. I'm sure heavier paper weights being rammed through probably leaves more signs of wear and tear, should the device be examined. Even the national office supply store chains won't print from digital items, such as PDFs, because of intellectual property rights. One refused to print some image heavy tutorials for me, even though I had a printed receipt. They said that as far as they knew, the files could have been illegally shared, even with a receipt. Those tutorials were very niche items, and would have been useful to a very small percentage of the global population. Coloring pages can be used by almost anybody. A lot of public libraries won't allow printing of images, for the same reason. Even though some digital products now include a release statement with a printing allowance, there may be issues getting the documents printed. Your link to the Brother device returns an error page. I'd encourage people to do their own research. Read the manuals' paper specifications. Don't rely on word of mouth, find out what weights each model officially accepts. Just because some people can afford to ram anything through their printer, and treat it as disposable, doesn't mean everyone should. My own monster is a Brother laser printer. I chose Brother because I'd heard good things about them. I chose a monochromatic laser printer because I have no need to ever print in color. And the last few HP monsters I owned required me to keep color ink cartridges, even though I only print in black, to "protect the print heads.". Even though I never printed in color the color cartridges were always needing to be replaced (and I know how to properly set up monochrome). It never occurred to me that a modern laser printer would have a low paper weight allowance of 43 lbs, as the Brother does have. Admittedly, I didn't think to check that specification. I had other "needs" in mind (and as it turned out, the documentation was errant there). I didn't realize it was so limited until well after purchase. Paper crafting hobbies have been growing in popularity for decades, so I couldn't fathom laser printers being so horribly hobbled by low paper weight allowances. Even the scrapbookers I knew online back around 2000 were printing elements. So I was shocked that a brand name laser printer like Brother was so crippled in late 2018. When I colored up until the early 2000s, and copied images, I just used standard paper and Crayola pencils. Now my dominant hand is a mess. It quickly became clear that I was going to need better tools, since I'm stuck with coloring being my only forever hobby. First, I found better pencils. I was still having discomfort, and more than the physical issue could explain, so I picked up some better paper. I chose the 67 lbs paper recommended by so many "colorists." The expensive toner flaked off the expensive paper. I tried some different things, but nothing worked. So, I did a little research at the Brother web site. That's when I found out that my brand new 2018 printer, that costs $200, only officially supports paper up to 43 lbs. And, actually, the toner flakes off of paper under and up to 43 lbs. Wow... So modern. Since then, I've been researching and not finding anything that's much better. Unlike most "colorists," I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on supplies a month. I don't have nearly a grand to sink into a printer. If I buy a printer around the $300 range even, I'd need the extended warranty, just in case something does go wrong. I couldn't risk ramming off label paper weights through, just in case part of the agreement is that I send in the damaged device in. Expert eyes would probably be able to tell I'd been using it in an unsupported fashion.

I'm sorry you've had such a difficult time with your printers. I agree, every printer is different, so it's always important to read the manuals. Many print shops have different rules, so as I mentioned, just call and check beforehand. I double checked the Brother printer link, and it seems to be working, so it perhaps could be your browser? Hopefully, you'll be able to find paper, printers, and ink that works for you. Happy New Year!

I have a brother monochrome laser printer. I had the same problem - the toner flaking off of the paper. After going through all configurations and some trial and error, I discovered that the printer has an option that solves the problem. When printing, go to settings, -> media & quality -> then in "media type" choose "Heavyweight paper". I can now print on cardstock paper (using the heavyweight paper option) and the toner doesn't come out of the paper anymore. I'm super happy with it.

@@whatifamanda I've tried that, and it didn't solve the issue for me. Thank you, though. Setting work arounds don't change the fact that according to the official manual, the laser printers only officially support weights up to 43 lbs. I've tried so many work arounds.
