In this weeks video I explain where I have been recently, and how I've been dealing with illness whilst studying for an exam. I also did my first euthanasia this past week and I talk about what that felt like for me. If you have any questions or comments leave them down below! Thanks for watching!

what a lovely video thanks for sharing your raw feelings about both of those topics with us. really important for pre vet students to remember that one going in. and important that we have vets with a conscience of course!

Thank you so much! I love that, although it can be really tough its a good reminder that an empathetic vet is better than one who isn't

I feel you girl! I’m currently in uni myself and I’m not sure if I’ll make it through with my chronic illness because it’s taking control over my life more and more with each day.. Also because my uni is very strict with absences and I can have even a 10 day long flare ups these days 😕

Hi! I'm so so glad I found your channel. Kudos to you for being so motivated when you're not well enough to study. I saw a dog getting euthanized because of limited resources in vet clinics where I'm from. I think that just turned me into rock now. Is it the best coping mechanism? prolly not, hope all of us can find a good way to handle it

Hey thank you so much!! Honestly I'm not sure at this point what the best coping mechanism is, im hoping to learn as the years go on unfortunately. I hope we can find a good way to handle it too, i will definitely let you know if I figure it out 😄

wow you are so strong to be going through vet school with a recurrent/ chronic illness. I hope you’re doing better this week, definitely missed seeing your lovely self on video last friday! euthanasia definitely does not sound fun and I’m not looking forward to it as a vet either... the thought of an animal dying makes me cry let alone me being the one responsible for it 😬

Thank you, and yes I am feeling much much better 😊 i know, it was quite an experience doing a euthanasia, but something we will have to learn to deal with and hopefully find ways of coping 😌

I really want to be a vet (going into uni next year) but am concerned about the euthanasia aspect of the career. As vets, we go into the profession because we love animals so putting one to sleep would obviously be difficult. I wonder if it gets easier over time? Thanks for your video Jess :)

Yeah I agree, it does seem really difficult - and it was. I think the best thing to remember is that majority of the time these animals are either suffering or putting unnecessary stress or financial burden on people who have explored all their other options. I think it must get easier, but I dont know at this point!! 😊

@@jesscliffee True, framing it as a humane end to suffering should make it easier to deal with. Hopefully we find healthy ways to cope when practicing - and trying to focus on the many good elements of the profession as well! 😊

Think about to being vet twice! Lots of vets suffer depression and suicidal thoughts. You won’t be only putting animals down who suffering. We all know there it’s legal at NZ to euthanize healthy animal. People decide they don’t want their pets anymore and will do that and you gonna have to do this work. And yes it will be difficult if you have empathy. If you careless and have no emotions that you will get used to it.
